Default Conversion Motor Mounts

Does anyone have a S&P motor mount plates used to convert back to the old style mounts? Seems like one could make these pretty easily w/o spending $90. The pic in their catalog looks like the lower front hole on the block is used to anchor the same hole in the old style mount so all one needs to do is drill the appropriate holes. Is that all there is too it or am I missing something? I'm guessing they use something like 1/4" aluminum plate?

But use 1/4" steel instead of aluminum.

Could you post a pic for us? Take a quick picture of the motor mount. Also, what application are you running?

How's this:

Motor mount bolted to the block:

Motor mount plate #1: (This is the one that most people are using.)

Motor mount plate #2: (Positions the motor forward of #1 by ~1.75". Necessary for some applications. 70LS1 and I are using this one on our Corvettes. It makes tranny mounting MUCH easier.)

Pictures are great!!

How about you Nova guys, are you finding that the LS1 can sit in the same location or does it need to go forward some? I'm working on a 66 Nova. -Bob

I wonder if those will work in a 72 Chevelle? I know I have to move my tranny crossmember back a few inches(2wd 4L80E)

It should work on anything that had a smallblock in it... they're all the same, right? The best thing to do is make up a cardboard template, hang the motor (and tranny) from a cherry picker into the engine bay, and see where things come out.

Yep, those are Energy Suspension poly. I've had good results with them before. Summit has a motor mount and tranny mount combo pack that I used on my car. It's a few $ cheaper than buying them individually.

Default Mount Plates

Knocked out a set of those motor mount plates in about an hour - now, are all SBC motor mounts the same dimension - I ask because BBC mounts come in two height-width combinations (there is something like 1/2" difference in them). OldNovaGuy, did you use energy suspension mounts - that's what I want to use.

Matt, how did you handle the vertical ridge on the back of the stock motor mount - I'm sure the energy suspension one does also. Did you grind it off the mount so the mount sits flush to the conversion plate or did you use spacers on the bolts to set the mount out a ways? -Bob

??? I'm not sure what you mean. The Energy mount sits flush to the plate without any grinding.

Good - that's what I want to hear. I will ultimately use an energy suspension mount but in the interim I was going to mock things up with a stock mount. You know on the energy susp mount the separate plate has a vertical protruding ridge on it - and it faces the other half of the mount - well on the stock mount I have (perhaps they are not all like this) there is a vertical protruding ridge on it also that does not allow the mount to sit flush on the conv plate.

Guess what I should do is get the energy susp mount and not try and mock this up w/the stock one. Thanks. -Bob

My Energy Suspension mounts have a vertical long oval type protrusion on the backside and will hit the S+P mounts that I have. Hmmm...

You don't need to use the backing plate that comes with the Energy mounts. The adapter plate performs the same function.

Default Vertical Protrusion Rib

I received my energy susp mounts today and they also have the vertical rib on the back as noted by Patrolman808 and without the preload backing plate they also will not sit flush by a good 1/8". So now I'm curious - Scooter70, does your mount sit flush w/o the preload plate? At least this protrusion is plastic and not metal like the stock mounts in case it needs to be shaved off or do we need to mill a recess in the conversion plate like the preload plates have?
