I can pick up a ls1 and 4l60e combo for a fair price but me question is with this transmission am I force to run the shifter on the floor or can I switch it over to a column shifter? Or should I buy the ls1 by its self and then pick up a 4l60e or 4l80e out of a truck do to the fact that the shifter is on the column.

You can simply remove the cable actuator arm from the trans and replace it with a column shifter arm from a truck. Just one nut holding it on.
