If I were gonna pursue something like that I'd have a shop like Madman or the like beef up the chassis, etc to hold the abuse.

Very cool idea that someone should definately do. BUT, it's going to be a real project. The car would need to have an inner tube chassis for the amount of torque a rear drive LS1 would make in it, or else the doors would never open after the first hard launch! You might be able to get away with a nice back-half and a good cage though. As far as room is concerned, the motor would fit if your willing to bring it back into the firewall a little bit, now the tranny and driveshaft are another story, there is NO room under these cars. You will have to build a driveline tunnel through the whole inside of the car no doubt. If you have any more questions I'll do what I can. I still have my Civic, so I could do a couple measurements if your curious. Good luck!

What about transverse mounted, way too big to fit?

There was a thread about this about two years, nothing came of it.

I know where I can get transverse LS1 stuff but I'm sure that all of this shyte would be too big.

Way too big for the hassle IMO. Side to side even a Honda motor has little clearance with the tranny attached. You would most likely have to cut and reweld new suspension points and tube most of the front end.

Does a gutted civic hatchback even weight 2000lbs? Man that thing would be crazy fast if you could get it to work.

I love it! If you buy it, don't paint it. I am digging that color scheme.

Looks like too much work, we have a 1995 Civic 2 dr in our household and the engine compartment is probalby too confining.

Where is that hatch roller located, I might be interested, I could buy it and then set it on fire.

YES. in fact, my 1992 Civic CX hatchback with a built GSR swap running almost 200 hp and a LSD equipped 4.9 final drive tranny was one sweet rocket for the size... just 2000 pounds with the rear seats and the complete stereo removed. Nice!

To do the LS1T56 swap into a Civic, youre looking into a HUGE project, it would be fun but so much fabrication and what the hell would you do to get any tires wide enough to get any traction out back... the stock fenders allow up to a 235 at best, widebody setups miight allow a 265 but you'd really need to get creative to run a 285 or 315 out back.. like tubbing it? then you wouldnt have a "sleeper" anymore.

I still have my 2000 pound Civic Hatch, but I chose to drop an LS1T56 into a 1987 RX7 to keep things "simple". I can fit up to a 275 wide tires out back without doing any fender work, there are motor mount bolt in kits from Hinson and from Grannys, the RWD chassis of the RX7 is incredible for handling and you can use the strong LSD rear end from the turbo-2-RX7, plus the lightweight RX7's like my "Sport" model still weigh under 2700 pounds full interior WITH the LS1T56 installed!

thanks for the info, i know its starting to overwhelm me

but the wheel wells would have to be refabricated in back anyways to fit the framing in and the new drivetrain.

What about a mid engine mount, with the bleehousing off of a T56 camaro, and the vette tranny and rear end? I know that would be a huge amount of work and maybe would put the driver to far forward. hmm... I'd try using the vette oil pan as I believe it is the shortest, height wise.

Break out the plasma, and MIG and get to work.

Sounds like a very tough job, but also like a really fun project.

Best of all would be taking it to an import car show, and showing everyone what you got. Then bust out the Dyno, and time slips.

Or then I guess you could also keep the hood closed, show the dyno/slips, and say, "I ported my head, got a cold air induction kit, and a "fill_in_the_blank" exhaust system. Besides that all stock."

allready picked out the liscense plate

V8-TEC or just MOUSE but it would be stone stock exept nice and clean and a decent set of rims w/ some meat for traction in back

this will take a while to get done, send me a pm in about 3 years for an update.. i gotta get a garage at least to do this.
