Default 92 civic hatch + ls1 idea

first off dont take my idea!

secondly i need help if anyone is familar with both.

would be stock aluminum ls1 longblock, t56, f body 10 bolt w/ shortened axles and tubes i'm sure.. shortie driveshaft.

what kinda stuff am i overlooking that i will run into with this stuff? possibility of a huge hood? anybody know the width between shock towers?

i would use my stock 98pcm from my car (i have edit for it allready) and get the painless harness.

please inform/criticize.

i would be bulding this for my daily driver. but general cutting and welding to fit rear and engine/trans not a problem. (doesnt have to look good)

hahahahaha, this would be freakin hilarious. ls1 through a fartcan, lol. i think a few honda guys may wonder wtf you did to the car to make it sound like that.
i think it would be fun to try as long as you leave the outside looking stock.

sweet, than go for it, id love to see something like that, should get like 30+mpg and you may want something wider than a 205 tire, lol. so maby some decent rims.
i havent worked on many hondas but the trans tunnel is going to take alot of fabrication. this would be a good addition to monster garage.

yeah i see the biggest problem being fabing the tranny tunnel and room for the driveshaft, without weekening the car so much that is needs a cage to support the body, so it doesnt sag in the middle

a 350 can fit in a stock engine bay, they are plenty wide since the 4 banger sits sideays in there, and why be afraid of putting the motor slightly under the body/dash area, it is already like that in a camaro

good points.

at that weight with 300rwhp it would need a rollbar anyways. there is one for sale on ebay with a sweet cage in it but its 4 * out of my price range

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

i wonder if there is anything in the way of a driveshaft.. like a gas tank

That car would be such a nice start!

I think fabbing a tranny tunnel would be simple, just make sure you run a driveshaft loop. The only pain in the *** would be finding strong enough mounting points for a 4 link rear end or even leaf springs.

You need to get a hold of Jeffrey (B18B1LS1), he's a guy on here with a 10 second SS, but he came from the import world and has a 12 second honda civic hatch, I'm sure he could give you some dimensions, etc.

Sounds fun.

Cheers.

That would be freakin sweet!

i always wanted to do a 510 datsun/ LS1 swap. Any import will do so get whatever you can get cheap, i personally would rather use an accord or something a lil larger and cooler looking than a civic, but thats just IMO.

But keep us posted, and take plenty of pics, not trying to copy but hell i want to put an LS1 in just about anything i can get my hands on.:p

I dont think the uni-body of a civic could handle the extra weight/torque of a V8 and RWD. It would take a roll cage minimum to reinforce it. Maybe a tube frame. Either way there was a vid of a V8 Geo some where on here.

Off topic: I have a buddy who is building a V8 240Z. That will be a fun car when its done.

The LS1 is pretty much the lowest profile (heightwise) and lightest small block chevy motor out there. The Painless wiring harness is made for the 98 pcm so you're set there. I would have to think that a subframe would have to fabbed up because I would seriously question the Civic body being able to handle the weight and stress from the LS1 . It would make a killer sleeper though, especially if you stay lowkey in outside appearance.

there are more than a few RWD converted older Hondas, including the SBC C4 underpinned CRX from the Grassroots Challenge. It would be great, and everyone would just think it was some lame ricer POS!!
