I actually want to build up a RWD Northstar Metro. Or a splayed valve V6 Chevy in some kind of import/sport compact.
years ago in high school, i actually measured one that the teacher owned... it would shoehorn in there... obviously a little bit back, but not tooo bad.
now i want to do it with a LS1... same concept though.. lol.
just to be different? I guess if thats what you want but its not hard AT ALL to get 500 whp out of a b series motor(and no you dont need 10+k to do it)
although it would be rwd which would pwn.. roll up to the burnout box..everyone would be like wtf..then proceed to light up the rears
awesome. but imo its not worth it.
Ps. 100% interior, stock exhaust DB levels, daily driven. heh heh heh...

I actually have a DSM sitting out back just waiting for this. I've just got to finish the T/A 1st. The plan is to go with the new LS2 402 into the T/A and then take the stock bottom end LS1 and drop it into the DSM...I should be able to get started by summertime.

Been hacking away at it for about one year now. But with a kid in college it has slowed down a bit

I discovered a crack in a cylinder liner, so the engine I used to engineer the swap is toast. But I did find a good short block today, so I should have a good running engine by next month. Goal is to have the car out of paint by April. I am putting on the National Toyota MR2 / Celica All-Trac / Lotus Elise (www.na2005.info) meet in Topeka in June, so I have to have my Domesticated import done by then.
Yes I know I should have used a LS1, but they are just not that plentiful in my area. nor cheap. Like I said, I have a kid in College and 3 more behind her..

May I just say, your project and documentation is fascinating.
I respect what you've got going on there. The only question I had, which wasn't addressed on your web site, was why you decided to go with custom fuel rails. For a while, you had the motor in with the regular ones, and then the next thing I know, your friend was fabbing up a set. Any reason why?
Cheers,
Andrew
I also had an issue with the regulator blowing up on me (my own stupid fault) but that got me thinking.
I called GM to see if they would cover the engine under that fuel rail recall and all they did was laugh. No... the dealership really did laugh. Pissed me off. All I wanted was the rail. I would do the rest... or if the GM mechanic was really that much better at installing a fuel rail then I would let him do it. But because the engine is not attached to a cadillac they wanted nothing to do to me. I am actually finding alot of issues like this with local GM dealers in Richmond Va and Charlottesville Va. As soon as you say Toyota they instantly think rice. I try to remind them that I am 42 years old and not some bolt on kiddy... but then I just get blank stares. I even tried doing the - I am sticking the Northstar in a 53 Surburban Hotrod (which we are doing along side my car... but are using the tried and true 350cid V8) but I get know where with that.
So we get to the fuel rail. Fire scares me in a big way. I am the type of guy that even wears a nomex suit while doing a track day.
So I happen to have on my message board guys that have businesses that can help me out. And Garrett at Wolfkatz Egineering LLC [ http://www.wolfkatz.com/ ] stepped up to the plate and designed me a very cool fuel rail. It looks night and day better than even the stock 2005 N* rail. Plus it comes with an absolute kick *** FPR from Aeromotive.
I am also working with Evans Cooling [ http://www.evanscooling.com/ ] about the complete cooling system package. I quickly discovered that I have no clue how to make a cooling system. It is not as simple as finding a radiator and plugging some hoses in. I am a little over my head when it comes to this stuff called coolant. I learned a lot today speaking to their engineering department.
I really wanted to havethis car done quick... like last Xmas
But I have discovered that re-engineering a production car designed to handle 112hp to handle 350hp is just a lot of friggen work. Plus I have done some things 3 or 4 times until I got it right. But I am learning as I go with a lot of things. That is what makes this stuff fun!
keep up the good work!
