Default Underhood space in LS1-RX7 question...

Is there enough room to fit a twin turbo setup under the hood of an LS1-RX7? Single turbo?

Im selling my camaros (sold one already, one more to go ) to build a project car, looking to do something along the lines of a C5R block, forged bottom end, solid roller, with a turbo or 2 in a FD RX7

Just wondering if the turbos would fit or not.

There is a picture of a twin turbo LT1 FD floating around.

Check the "other conversions" daughter forum @ rx7club.com
Also check out torquecentral.com - I know a pic was posted a few months ago in there as well.

There is definitely room in an FC for a single turbo setup, but who would ever think of doing such a thing?

Hinson has done a single turbo LS1/FD. I'm sure if you were creative enuf you could a twin turbo setup in there and have the $$$. Kiss the a/c and p/s good bye if going TT as it is a tight engine bay.

My friend's completed FD with sunroof, a/c, p/s, mid length headers, dual 2 1/2" exhaust and inline resonators (to muffle further), Bose sound system and no weight reduction weighs 2840lbs with LS1/T56 and aluminum driveshaft. The car has stock wheels/brakes.

Sunroof adds about 30lbs and 3" less headroom (R1 models don't have them). You can get a CF hatch that shaves off another 40lbs and lightweight FAL glass (summit racing) to shave off another 10lbs. Remove the front fiberglass crash beam (behind bumper) for 15lbs less, no a/c or p/s... A 26xxlb LS1/FD can be had.

With 450rwhp n/a I think 10's with a T56 would be a breeze. With a big turbo setup that car would be a damn handful. 8's with a T76 single turbo probably.

I installed a n/a LT1 in a 86 RX-7 and there is plenty of room under the hood it would seem to mount a turbo/intercooler on it.

LS1 would be killer, perfect weight ballance front to back, and should clear stock hood, LT1 did! What a sleeper

Twin turbos would be pretty tight in the engine bay,if the screen name didnt give it away I've got the single turbo ls1 Hinson Super Cars did.As of now i run 10.6s but i'm getting a 3.90 gear (have a 4.10) and just got some 305/45 drag radials ,hopefully that will bring down to the low low 10s.Anyway check out the pics. http://members.cardomain.com/500hpls1rx7

Ive actually decided to do a single, since I want to try and keep AC and power steering. Were you able to with your setup? what size turbo did you go with? sorry for the barrage of questions Pics look badass btw

Thanks the turbo is a t66, i was told a/c would be difficult to keep but after looking at it i'm sure you could put an aftermarket pump in there but going w/out it saves weight on the front end.As for the power steering i dumped that as well to improve handeling, there is actually a lot more control of the vehicle w/out it.Besides when your driving 80+ you dont need a/c (windows). Also i'm selling the headlights for 500 if anybody wants them.
