Did you buy it from a guy in Missouri? I worked with a guy who had a red 74 914 with a gm 302. That thing had traction like you wouldn't believe with the rear mount engine.

I have a Porsche 914 with a 383 SBC V8. The car is 2300 LBS and really runs great. I'm working on my new LS1 powered 914 Porsche now. I hope to have the car running and driving in the next month or so. Plan to do the Hot Rod power tour in the early summer. I'll leave the Ls1 stock in the begining and the do mods as I go.
Will be interesting to see how the LS1 compares with the SBC with both cars geared the same. I'll be real happy if it has the performance of the SBC, but hope its better.

here is what i got from the current owner. who happens to be a good friend of mine and I trust his judgemet no question about it. I also know both guys who have worked on the car and they are very good with car stuff.
The ’75 914 has the Renegade kit to upgrade the car to the Chevy small block engine. It has a 305 Tuned port fuel injected engine that was brand new when installed about 3,000 miles ago. Tim upgraded the suspension from a 911 and added 911 brakes and wheels. He also added an electric water pump, the only thing he didn’t do is add a temperature switch to turn it on, right now it has a manual toggle switch. He also changed all the plugs, wires, tires, brakes, etc. He could probably go into more detail if you are interested. Jim fixed all of the rust spots when he put the engine in, but now there are some small spots where it is bubbling in a couple of areas and the paint is faded.
I sold the car to Tim for 3,000 and he put over 3,000 into parts plus all of his labor. His wife wanted him to buy a car that they could take their whole family in so I bought it back for 4,500 and he bought an old Mustang. If you are interested I would sell it for the 4,500 that I bought it back from Tim. Mechanically I think the car is almost bulletproof, cosmetically it could use a little work.

not meaning to hijack here but if you were to use a destroked 302 ls1 and swap it into a 5.0 fox body and leave the 5.0 emblems on it. That would be pretty badass since there are alot of suspension options for those cars, it would be a sweet auto-x car.
