Where can I buy a new data link connector ?
I know I can get one from a late model car in a junk yard but does anyone in
the US sell them on line ?

Pin 16 is 12V Battery NOT 12V ignition. Whoever came up with that obviously doesn't own a scan tool!

Nothing to do with the software, if you tie it to ignition, you turn the scan tool off everytime you turn the engine off.
Besides, the wire is orange; orange means full time 12 volts. If it were intended to go to ignition, there's a good chance it would have been pink!

but since i use a laptop, and its not powered by the port, i never noticed... gotcha.
