MAC Mids hitting the steering shaft!
here is the problem:
did anyone have a problem with the steering shaft when upgrading headers? i tried to install MAC mids and ypipe yesterday and 3 hours later after bolting the headers down, I found out that the steering shaft is going to hit the driver side header. i can't even connect it back!
I had to put the stock manifolds back on but the flange bolt on each side of the manifolds have 1 broken bolt. I didn't had enough time to put everything back together because it was so damn cold out. now my car is sitting in the driveway with no ypipe on. im using my 1994 steering column and 1994 steering rack. does anyone know if i can change the intermediate shaft with a 98-up shaft and have enough clearance for the headers? do i have to replace the complete rack on the car as well? im so pissed! i really wanted this thing bolted up yesterday.
is there anyway around this? i hate to put the stock ones back because the ypipe will leak due to a missing bolt on each side of the manifolds.

I tried changing just the steering coupler first. (the part between the column and the rack). That didn't work. It is designed differently, but it still needed to be in the same place as the #1 header tube...
Swapping to an LS1 rack fixed it.
I was having clearance problems with the p/s lines and the alternator too, until I switched racks.
