I don't the vin is on the block. I asked the same thing when I got here. Does it have a LS6 intake? 01 - 02 came with that. Some of the 01's are LS6 blocks.

The block # you gave does not show up in my manual for any GEN III block. It could be a warranty block though.

I can't see any numbers on the intake but from trying to peak under it it looks like a ls6 manifold. I was hoping to trace it to the vin of the car somehow to see if the milage matched.

your not going to be able to trace it back to a car.you will be able to figure out what year it is though. a ls6 intake doesn't have egr.

k so all I know and can know is the casting number is from 99 and up. The intake is a LS6 with no egr so it is 01 and up. It's looking pretty good that it is the 2002 motor I was told it was. To bad I can't trace to the vin to verify mileage. The motor doesn't appear to have 24k on it like i was told the car does.

With HpTuners you dont need the Vin#, but you do need know the year of the car. Its model year specific unlike LS1edit which is Vin# specific I believe. With that in mind, if you buy the software for a 2002 F-Body, then you can tune/scan your VCM and any other 2002 F-Body with no extra costs. Also, I think you actually get 2 years now for the price of what I paid for one.

Have you tried to go to www.Mortec.com and enter all the #'s you found on the motor yet? Thats where I made sure mine was a 99.

There is a short version of the vin for ID purposes on the passenger side of the block. It is on a flattened out tab by the rear and has laser etched numbers that are hard to read.

Dale is right. I bought a used motor (LS1). The guy I bought it from said it came out of a 98 vette. I was able to find that it actually came out of a 99 vette from the VIN number on the block.
