Default Las Vegas weekend for the "project"

I must say, a nice strong LS-1 makes a good "road car". My project was "road tested" last weekend from Southern Calif. to Las Vegas for the Rockabilly Weekend Show. I'm almost certain it was the only hot rod there with an LS-1 in it.

I bet you were the only one who got 20+ mpg on the way thru the desert and had no worries about overheating too. Congrats.

I really don't see how that is a traditional hot rod, with the LS1 and all.

But nice job nonetheless.

thats really cool. the coolness of a hotrod with something you can somewhat rely on to get u there. and since a LS1 can be found for fairly cheap its a decent alternative

That is a a great ride Oscar. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with us too. After seeing yours I bet there will be more old style rods with modern motors. I bet the first guys that put a 283 in one instead of a flat head go odd looks too. Wide Whites Rock!

Thanks guys, it's alot of fun after alot of work. Yep, got 25 mpg running 70 mph. Traditional hot rod.......I think so, in the true spirit of the whole thing......and yes, it's like years ago when the first 283 small block got stuffed into a '30s car. You would be surprised how well recieved this car was among the "old skool" guys, they thought it was "kool".

I don't understand what you mean.

Oscar Will did an excellent job on that '35. It is very obvious.

My hudson, with the old iron and the 4 barrel gets 21 mpg on the highway and has never let me down. Even with the hemi and the stock radiator it has never overheated.

I love it!! Old Hudsons are cool too!! The ol "Firedome V-8" is a real runner also. I saw a few of them last weekend stuffed into all sorts of old cars.

Yes, it is a 4L60E from a 1998 Camaro, front brakes are "B" car discs and rears are 95 F-body disc brakes operated by a 7" booster and an early Corvette iron master cylinder. It stops very well.

It's RM "matt black", not a primer. It's the same stuff that is used on "anti glare" hood panels and things like that. Some guys use the John Deere tractor paint they call "Blitz Black" but I can't find it out here in California for some reason. It's a very hard finish....some day I will paint it a real color.
