mechanical speedo on T56

has anyone modified tail shaft housing for mechnical speedo? Are there vendors who do this? thanks

Careful doing this on an LS1. The PCM wants input from the VSS and it's used in logic for idle speed control, fan control, and possibly other loops. If you replace the magnetic VSS with a mechanical one, you'll need to generate a 40K pulse signal some other way.

The JTR conversion is great for fitting a T56 into an older car with correspondingly-old powertrain controls.

how about having both. ie VSS for computer and mechanical for speedo?

I'm using an Abbott Cable X converter box. It's a lot cheaper than swapping the tailshaft.

I heard the covetrs don't work that well ie The response time of the servo motor results in a lag and a non natural sweep of the needle. Thats why I was looking at mechanical option

I've never heard that. If true, it can't be any worse than a factory F-body tachometer. Those things really suck.
