Default Is there a smaller coil available for an LS1?

After finally putting the body on my chassis, there isn't enough room between the rear of the heads and the firewall for the coil relocation mounts we made. Is there a smaller coil I can use? Maybe LS2 or 5.3L???

If so, will it be a direct swap and work with my 2002 PCM?

The new LS2 coils on the vette are round and probley thicker but not as wide. Check with MSD (i think) since they make and aftermarket one.

Is the problem how thick they are? How much thinner that a LS1 coil do you need it to be?

It needs to be about 1" thinner. The problem with the ones I have is the big metal hoop on the coil is in the way on the passenger side head. They fit on the driver side because the heads are offset on the block. Do you know the dimensions of the LS2 coil?

Here's the LS1 coil, the Gen 3 truck coil, and the LS2 coil. The LS2 coil would allow the tightest mounting due to the design and mounting tab locations.

here's an idea: get yourself 6 pieces of chain link(bicycle) and move the coils and brackets forward. the links are approx. 3/4" long and can move the brackets and coils forward. use 3 per side connecting the hold downs( original holes) on the brackets to the original boss's on the heads. we do this on a circle track car with truck coil packs to give us extra clearance with headers.

The truck and LS2 coils share the same connector; but it is different from the LS1 coils.

If you go with the LS2 coils, I think I know someone that could change the connectors.

Worst case just mount them somewhere else and use longer plug wires.

I'll have to send my harnesses back to you for the rework.

No room. A '63 Vette has a very small engine compartment.
