Smile 55 chevy LS1 transplant

I just purchased a complete 00 LS1/4l60E from ebay. It comes with the computer, MAFS, and all the stock accessories. It has 27k mi and comes with a 6 month warranty. It cost me $4425.00, and that inculudes shipping to my front door. I'am pretty fired up to get started on the transplant! I want to start a photo album of the install. If you are doing a similar prodject let me know. Feel free to email me. I'am new at posting things, so bare with me................https://ls1tech.com/forums/attachmen...id=30792&stc=1e.

I will be doing a '53 Studebaker swap with a similar engine and trans starting this fall. It's not exactly the same as yours, but I expect there will be some similarities since they are from the same vintage. Good luck with your swap, keep us posted.

Go up to the search feature and search on 55 Chevy. You may find others. Try 56 and 57 too.

Also go to the new LS1 Owner and Enthusiast forum and read the FAQs there is a ton of information there that is easy to find and will answer a lot of questions. It sure helped me

Default Welcome:

I'm putting a LS1 and 6 speed in a '55 chevy. I was in the middle of a frame off restore when I got the engine so I've got lots to do. I'm taking the body to a guy tomorrow to prep and paint. I had the engine and tranny in but pulled it back out for the paint work.

You can do a search and find out the major issues (or opportunities) if you don't already know them. Also, Street and Performance has a Projects page for LS1s. One that you will want to look at is "***** Wagners 56 Chevy LS1 4L60" . It's a great reference.

If you have any questions about my project, let me know.

In addition to this forum, you might also want to check out the
Chevy Talk forums, particularly the modified forum at http://www.chevytalk.org/threads/ubbthreads.php There's several guys there that are doing LS1 swaps.

I am doing an LS1/6speed swap into a '56 Nomad myself, but I have also installed C4 Vette suspension front and rear, so my setup is a different than what you will have to deal with.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I'm not doing a frame off, but pretty close. I ordered a Jim Meyer Racing bolt-in IFS kit. My plan is to pull the straight six and trans out, clean up the visible parts of the frame, bolt in the IFS , and paint the fire wall with a two stage eurothane enamel from PPG, or House of color. Then fit the LS1 in, replace the wire harness, work out the bugs with the motor. Then once the motor and trans, and new 9" rear end are in, I'm going to take out all the old windows, remove the interior , mask everything off and shoot the rest of the car with paint. This is not meant to be a show car, Its going to be an everyday driver. I just hope the order I'm going to do things in works. By the way, I'm doing all this in my garage!

Sounds like a good plan. Did you get the whole Meyer bolt-in IFS kit or the econ version? I looked at the kits and I still may go that route some day so keep me posted on any clearance issues. I got the S&P modified oil pan to clear my '55 steering and it looks like it would clear the rack and pinion.
