Default Costs to install LS1 in 2nd Gen Z28??

I am new here and this is my first thread.
I am a member of www.nastyz28.com and I'm looking at installing an LS1 in my 78 Z28 and I need some guidance from those that are familiar with this engine. So I was told to come here.

I would like to purchase a complete LS1 engine from a wrecked GTO or any late F-body and install it in my car, but LS1 Speed which sponsors this board is quoting me at $5700 for the install. Initially they said around $3200 for a t-56+ LS1 install, then they changed it. They are 15 minutes from me (Chicago Area) and I feel like they're trying to rape me on this. Anyone else think this is ridiculous??

What SHOULD it cost me for an install ?? There's no way in hell I'm forkin over $5700 for an install in a much easier car to work with. Any other places close to Chicago I can check out ??

is the 5700 for everything they supply engine-trans and all you just drive it away or is it just to hook it up

This is just for the hookup and customization of the harness.
I'm purchasing the engine/trans through an ebay retailer known for their
engines for $6,000......then they want $5700 just to install THE ENGINE only.
Even if it was the trans + engine it would still be ludicrous I would think.

That doesn't sound right... I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, installers, that installers charge something like twenty to thirty dollars an hour for labor. Let's suppose it's $30.00/hr. at a speed/performance shop. $5700.00 means it would take 190 hrs.? Are you supplying every single part? Any installers care to input?

Not really , it sounds fairly reasonable. I bought a 43k LS1 /T56 plus all usable parts from the donor car for 4600.00 . Started buying the conversion parts plus suspension/brake parts and I'm floating around 13 k! Now granted , I bought the best of the best and quite a few goodies for the motor ,(cam , springs , double roller chain , LS6 ported oil pump , LS6 intake , LTs , Aussie clutch, etc. ) but it gets really expensive quickly. And the money I've spent does NOT include labor. So you are getting by fairly cheap .

Default LS1 in a 2nd Gen Z28 ('78)

Anyone else here done this.
I'm new to this forum, but I've been a member of www.nastyz28.com for awhile now. I've been researching engines for the better part of a year now with MANY of my buds telling me to go LS1. So I decided to check it out.

I was going to purchase a complete LS1/T-56 from a GTO or any other and have it installed. I called www.ls1speed.com who is a sponsor here because they are literally 10 mins from my house. They gave me an initial quote of $2200 for labor and maybe $1,000 for the parts that had to be fabbed....motor mounts, etc.

After speaking with the owner briefly (Tom??) they wrote out a quote for me totaling $5700.......now am I just retarded or does that sound ludicrous??
Is there ANYPLACE else I can have this done since I will put a BBC in my car before spending $6,000 on an install.....

That is pretty nuts $5700 to just install, are you sure that didn't include the motor and trans
Don't know the level of your mechanical skill/workplace availability is, but would installing it yourself be an option?
I know it's further away (Indiana), but Speartech also does installs (at least they used to) maybe dropping a line to them would be an option for you

I can't do it myself, and if I could, I don't have the time availability.
Even if it included the trans install it was still way too high.
I'll contact Speartech, someone else gave me some alternate place as well to check out closer to me. I'm hoooooping big time here that I can get a much cheaper and realistic price.

I had a place here in S.Cal. (Reb's) put the LS6/700R4 for $250.00 in my '74 CAMARO. I put the access. on myself and did the wiring(thanks John -Speartech) ,fuel pump , rad., had the driveshaft cut it's not that tough and I'm no mechanic! I 'm waiting for my computer and injectors- then it's time to try and fire up this bad boy! Can't wait.

I don`t know if they do installs but you could try powerhouse performance, http://www.phpinc.biz/ They work on camaros, vettes, and trucks performance and maintenence.
