passlock & vats very similar.
the passlock system looks for the physical rotation of the lock cylinder. this rotation creats a voltage sent to the BCM, which then provides the ECM with a fuel enable signal, very much the same way the VATS worked.
as far as fooling the passkey or turning it off, i'm sure some of the editor's will disable, and i'm sure one could build a circuit to defeat it.
