Default fuel system question

I am acquiring parts to do a 6.0 install in my 1955 chevy convertible. Plan is to keep as much of the car looking original as possible. I have decided to go with a modified fuel tank from street rods by Michael ( stamped steel tank with a fuel pump already installed). I am using FAST fuel rails and I would like to make this a return-less system, less lines running outside the frame Not really enough room inside the frame rails to keep the fuel line away from the exhaust system, factory install was lines outside the frame rails. My question is do I use the Corvette filter/regulator or does the Fbody fuel pump have the regulator and return internal to the pump? PCM and harness are from a 2000 Fbody. Thanks

Definately use the Vette regulator/filter. The F-body system is a full return system. My Vette filter is about 12" away from the fuel tank so the return line is very short.

Mark, thanks for the reply. Not sure that a later Fbody system is a full return system, the fuel rail only has 1 fuel fitting. However, I do like the Vette style filter/return approach.

All LS1's are return systems. 97-98 Corvette has a return line from the fuel rail to the tank. 99 and newer Corvettes and all F-bodies run a short return line back by the tank. The Vette uses the filter/regulator assembly, the F-bodies have the regulator in the tank and use a regular filter.

Thanks, John for the info. By the way, those water pump spacers you made for me work great.

It's ok as long as you plumb it correctly.

well ive got a 99 f-body fuel pump assy and I will be running dual lines all the way up to the fuel rails, 97-98 vette style. I will be out there in a few minutes running the lines.

You know you could have run an electric carb pump up front fed by the stock tank..

Then plumb the carb pump into a inline high pressure FI pump and do the vette filter return reg thing...

Never thought about that, running two pumps. The convertible frame doesnt leave much room to work with. The exhaust runs thru the X member and severly limits any inside the rails work. Outside the rails everything is out in the open. The pump in the tank seems to be the cleanest option, expensive, but clean, and I can run a fuel line in the stock position. Anyway, tank is on order so I am committed ( maybe I should be committed!). Guess I will go with the Vette filter option. Thanks everyone.

I just put the aftermarket regulator and fuel pump next to the fuel cell with a short return line.
