Default ls1 in third gen.

ok, im looking for some help on this one. I'm looking into doing an ls1/t56 swap into my third gen. right now its a 2.8 auto. i know i need the as for the ls1, i have found this site http://www.crateenginedepot.com/LS1-...322-P12C2.aspx does this look good? and what else would i need to make it all work? as for the t-56, anyone know where i can get the whole set-up to convert a auto to manual? next i would need a driveshaft and rear end, any sugestions on this? iv been looking at strange or moser trying to decide what to go with. post opinions/advice or anything else that might help me out. how much do you think this will set me back? i have a rough estimate(very rough lol) but i want some others.

p.s. i also plan on painting her soon to, im thinking a dark red metallic with blac rally stripes and a 91/92 gfx kit and 91/92 high rise spoiler. any more idea's on colour scheme's?

It can be done and has been done. You need to try to get as much as you can off the donor car. The 4th pedals will work and you can use the driveshaft. A 4th gen rear axle will work but it wider than the 3rd gen so you will have to keep the 3rd rear or plan on buying rear wheels with a 4th gen off set. I also recommend getting the fuel lines and gas tank from the donor car. The exhaust will a bit on the tricky but there are exhaust kits out there.Spohn and other companies make a rear crossmember for the T56 trans to bolt in, the third won't work and neither will the 4th. You'll also need a converter box to use the speed sensor signal and convert it to cable for the '87speedometer.A engine harness conversion will be needed also. You'll need a cold air kit for the intake. If you want to keep the A/C, the K-member will need to be modified or you can buy a tubular one. You'll need a motor mount kit . This is a basic list and is not a complete one.

interesting.. so my best bet would be to find a wrecked 4thgen ls1? and take the parts off that? that sounds like the smartest/cheapest way to go. now i just need to find a donor car.. any ideas on that one?

Lots of work!! You may already be familiar with Thunder Racing if not check their web site I know they have convertors, drive shafts, etc, etc. These will most likly be new items and not cheap. Donor car would be great if you can find one. Tennessee Auto mentioned earlier should be a good resouce. Or just buy you an 02.

honestly... if you do most of the work yourself i'd say 3-4,000 for the used ls1, harness, ecm and auto trans. another 2,000+ for a manual version and the parts you'll need.

if you have a newer l98 base to work with you'll save a few hundred with the fuel system and electrical. figure on another 1,500 in little extras. slightly more or less and again this is all if you do it yourself. you'll still need a custom exhaust and some other extras but that should get you rolling. to be safe with a manual setup and not knowing your base car i'd count on 9,000 and be happy if you kept it lower.

i basicly need a donor car to swap everything over into my car. pretty much nothing on my car will work.. need new fuel system(2.8L system wont cut it) new coolent system, driveshaft, rearend, engine, ecm, everything out of a ls1 4thgen.. once i find the donor car, i can hopefully do all the work myself and will just need to order custom crossmembers, mounts, and such items that need to be custom made to fit the ls1in the third gen

find a donor car, swap EVERYTHING over, including dash. ive even seen door pannels off a 4th in a 3rd, like someone mentioned go ahead and get a tubular k memeber at the time, and do the $500 or so LS1 front brake swap kid, and run 4th gne wheels. you will basicly have a 4th gen with all the t top leaking problems of a 3rd gen (i have an 85 IROC :-p)
