I just got rid of my 93 Z28 LT1 6 speed for a 73 Z28. I know for sure I am going to make it a 6 speed. And I want to put a LS1 in it. What kind of money are we talking about. Stock LS1, tranny, computer, and harness out of donor car around $3500-4000. Will I need to modify the motormounts or the k member? If you know of a site that has a 2nd gen with a LS1 please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Have you checked out www.nastyz28.com ? I know they have a pretty decent tech forum. Nothing like this one, of course, but it still has some decent info. Which six speed are you converting to? How are you going about it? What motor are you using?

I have an LS6 in my '74 Camaro. So far I'm in a little over $7000.00 (including the cost of the car) . You have the car , if you do most of the work yourself you can have an awesome machine. Just figure $3-4000.00 LS1/T56, budget fuel system (inline ) $250.00, wiring harness $700.00, misc. $500.00. Mine will be considerably more because my '74 was a pile - I'm wasn't just putting in a LSx into an old car I 'm rebuilding the whole car mechanically and cosmetically. When you're done you won't believe how much fun the car will be .... lighter , faster , better handling, reliable, and economical- the $ I'm saving in gas , this might pay for itself in a few years!!! Do it !!

Can I ask why you went with the 700R4 instead of a 4L60E or similar trans? How was that install? Did it bolt up good or was there a lot of fabrication on that end?

Just hooked up my factory tach( Baker TSD box) - it's coming along ...slowly but surely.

Im planning an ls1 conversion for my 78 camaro, its cool to see other 2nd gens. It has a 350ci/350 auto in it now, I wanted a 6 speed, would it be cheaper to throw some other tranny in there? If I get a complete engine, transmission, and wiring harness out of a junked 98-02, how much extra will it be costing me? What about the driveshaft?

This thing shifts very hard which is how I like it. This thing will bark the tires at anything more than 1/2 throttle- I love it. Now I gotta install the T350-700R4 detent conversion so I can use my stock shifter and console (sleeper) and get all manual low gears with postive lockout.
