Bolt the chains to the holes in the end of the heads. If the motor and tranny are coming in/out at the same time, I highly recommend a load leveler.

And remember to use the correct fasteners. Most all of the motor is metric.

What they said. Heads work just fine and a load leveler would have been nice. I managed without, but it was a pain.

I'd suggest you check out Harbor Freight for a leveler.... I got one from there, for I think $20. Not the best piece in the world, but not bad for the money.

Ihave the harbor feight one and it sucked too. Last time I put the motor in i decided to tryit again with some anti-seize on the threads, worked alot better then just messy if you come in contact with it.

I remember having to do some "massaging" of the harbor freight unit. I think I ended up dremel-ing the holes that hold the threaded rod section....But not real certain, its been probably 2 years since I bought it and mod'd it.....

If your doing it in your home garage make sure you have enough height clearance to get the motor all the way up high enough to pull it out. My garage door was just high enough for me to pull the motor out, luckily.

Do you have enough room to work the engine forward enough to get the bolts in; supported by the chain on the front and a floor jack under the rear of the engine or tranny?

yea i could prlly do that...but what bolts to attach to in the front? i dont really want to connect them to the head bolts because that would mean i would need to re-torque them correct?

Use the accessory bracket bolt holes machined into the front-facing surface on the heads.

I also used the accessory ones on the heads and the ones in the same places on the back of the heads. I looked for holes that had more surface area around them so I wouldn't break anything. I also checked to see how long of bolt I could use and used the longest possible bolt.

Since the heads are aluminum, you can damage the threads if you use a bolt that is too short. You are putting a lot of side load on those threads. I also found the longest bolt possible.

Yea on the bolt did you just use an accessories bracket bolt or did you get a new one from the store?

Anyone remember the size on the bolts?
Gotta pick some up at a hardware store, and dont have any metric bolts at home to sort thru and try...(nothing that large either)
Also the size for the tranny to block bolts, so i can stick it on a stand
