yes, you might be a bit off on the weight, my guess is 2800 pounds, full interior w/o a driver. anything less than that and its because you are pulling out interior parts and glass.

oooh oooh ooh start posting pics of the progress!!!!

i do want to replace the front and rear with lexan... would save a ton of weight.. the front windshield is huge...
also gonna do whatever else besides taking out interior to drop weight..

My guess is 2650 with out driver. My car (1978 Chevy Monza) weighed 3000 with an iron head 355 (I'm swapping an LS1!). I think your car will be kick ***. Show us some pics.

I think your scale is off by a couple hundred lbs. Cool project nonetheless.
I told a couple subaru friends about it and they looked angry

That rear diff isn't going to take it, I had a helluva time with my rear diff on my vf30 + other bolt on's WRX. Try to get the sti rear diff, that should take a good bit more abuse.

As for keeping awd that'd be impossible with the positioning needed with the ls1, and to get the caddy stuff to fit you'd be looking at one helluva job.

Either way, good luck man, gonna be a helluva project. And if I see people talking smack over on NASIOC.com I got your back.

werd... i was contemplating the STI rear diff with maybe even a quaiffe...theres stock ones running like 600 hp on them so they should be able to take some abuse with a quaiffe

If I can remember my part numbers. The r360 is the wrx rear diff, and the r390 is the sti rear diff. With the low weight, and fact that you'd have wheel spin to take some of the abuse off of the diff, the r390 would likely work. Check the for sale from nasioc.com or something and you could probably pick one up for 100-200 bucks from someone that's building a race car. By the time you break that, you might wanna go for something more like a narrowed 9inch and new axels because the axels are also a weak link on the faster scoobies. One of my buddies has managed to break 2 on his moderately modded sti.

So basically go cheap, and see if it'll take... if it doesn't, go big.

oh, if you don't mind me asking what did you wind up spending on the ls1/t56 combo?

definitely a good plan... lexan front and rear on an rx7 like mine can save you 100 pounds easily and on your scooby it will be about the same, so go for it, have you checked out "percys speed glass"? if your gonna keep your interior in there, at least pull it out to remove everything behind it that you wont see, like dash framing, unecessary fuse blocks and wiring, door framework, supports plus sound deadening.

an LS1 rwd Scooby is cool, best of luck to ya

Viper Dana 44 pumpkin has a 9.3" ring gear..... They are bulletproof!
Cobra 8.8" is another good choice
C4 Vette (Dana 36 or 44) would be another option

All would need custom axles. I wouldn't think a stock Subaru diff with upgraded LSD would last long... but I have no experience with them either.

Is this going to be a drag only car or will it actually negotiate the twisties?

That trans tunnel is tiny...either you're going to need some cutting or your ground clearance should be ~ 0. Either way I'd still like to see it happen.

the motor cost me $2000 shipped, with z06 heads and cam... the tranny hasnt been bought yet.. saving for that as of right now...
the rear end is gonna have to suffice for now.. im thinking with it in running condition i should be able to maybe find a sponsor for the whole rear end ordeal.. if not i'll just rollcage the **** out of it and four link a 9" with a spool in there..

You can get an audi quattro diff for about $300. They used them unaltered in their rally cars. Supposedly good for 600ftlbs torque. Thats what I use in my conversion.

there you are, i figured youd be on here.

and i told you those are 97-98 heads
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ht=casting+806
not ls6 aka z06 heads
it looks like you have the zo6 intake manafold. as there is no EGR present.
plus you have a 98 style water pump.

since your adding boost id try to get some 6.0L heads bigger CC will alow for more boost.

All of this just to beat a turbo mustang

I thinks I sees no pilot bearing in the end of the crank for the t56 input shaft, so be sure to put one in there... if it is indeed missing.

it sure looks like that Scooby tunnel wont swallow a T56 !!!!!

nice pics, can ya take one under the car?
keep up the good work man!
