Default Power Steering Question

My LS1 has no accessories. The alternator is mounted low on the drivers' side. I want to run power steering on my car, so if i purchase an F-body steering pump, will it work with a '67 steering box? I'll probably get a quick ratio box from a later camaro, but either way, i'd like to know if it'd work. Adding just one pulley will allow me to route the belt fine, so thats no problem. Any feedback would be appreciated.
thanks in advance!

I have an LS1 in my '89 RX7. The pressure is about twice what the Mazda pump put out but I have had no problems.

the fbody pump works great on the steering boxes that they used on the 70s and 80s fbodies... matter of fact, in my case, even the fittings were the same.. lol. im using stock 2002 fbody power steering lines, and it looks like it was made to go there... the stock lines wont work in your case, but the pump works fine with the earlier boxes.

I dont have my power steering box yet... I now have the manual 7 turn sanginaw piece of crap. While my pan's being notched, i think i'll go to the salvage yard and pull one of an 80's iroc camaro. I hear they'll just bolt right in. That's what you're referring to, as the direct fit, right?

yep, the later third gen camaros... i think the fittings might be diffrent on the box in the very early years... but all of the later boxes are the same O-ring fitting.

Not trying to jack the post or anything, but when replacing an old steering box (1st gen camaro, chevelle, etc.) with a newer box from a late 80's camaro like you are doing or like a ZQ8 box from an s-10, do you have to rework the box to change the stops so you have proper steering/wheel/ clearance?

Question Lock To Lock...

Stops are not adjustable hydraulically on GM cars that I know of...They have always been limited by mechanical stops at both extremes of the steering movement. Anyone know different? Gar

there are two steering stops..
one is a mechananical stop built into the block
the other is a tab or something, usually on the lower A arm, that the spindle hits before the (stock size) wheel rubs.

on most cars, you normally hit the external, on the A arm stop first... so the stops in the box dont matter unless they dont move enough.
