Default IF U HAD AN LS1 and A4 JUST LYING AROUND

i have a complete Heads/and cam 2001 LS1 and A4. with 23,000 miles on it.

If yall had one laying around and say 10-15k to buy a vehicle and do the conversion, what would yall put it in?

Im thinkin about an S10 for a cheap lil sleeper truck.
or a big jeep wrangler.
or i could find a nice older camaro or vette and do something with that.

what would you do?

I saw two different C1's today. man, a 58-61 Vette would be awesome

Too bad nobody has a rolling chassis for sale, otherwise that what I'd be dropping mine into instead of the Camaro.

Really depends on what you want the vehicle to be used for.

If you want a fast dragracing vehicle, a LX notch mustang would be my choice.

A fun road racing vehicle would be a FD RX7

A good all around daily driver, partial tow vehicle, the S10 would be cool.

Jeep wrangler, you probaly can't keep the A4 if you want to make it 4by4, so that is either more money for the vehicle, or an expensive transadapter plates that would work.

im not sure what i wanna do with it. i only wanna spend 10-15k total, buy vehicle, and do the transplant. yeah i knew about the tranny with the jeep but it would still be cool to have the LS1 in a jeep. ive only seen a few.

i guess i just want a good daily driver. just have a lil fun and something that would be easy to sell when i got tired of it.

Thumbs up for the LS1 into Firstgen camaro! Body's one of the sweetest ever made, relatively easy transplant, suspension isnt hard to upgrade. Personally? If i had the know-how.. i'd do a miata. Just wish i could fit into one.
my two cents.

well...

if you were on a tight budget...

id say a 3rdgen camaro/firebird.. and heres why:

1. it just bolts in. no ****... $50 for motor mounts, and $90 for a crossmember (or mod the stock crossmember) and you're done.

2. the TQ arm, driveshaft, ect.. all bolt in.

3. wiring is a breeze. very similar.

4. they're CHEAP! but they dont need everything rebuilt.

5. they hook at the dragstrip. with some mods, they turn HARD at autocross.. with saftey mods, they hold their own on roadcourses.. why not?

i say you spend $300 to $1000 on a V6 3rdgen. (v6 = lower insurance)
about 2k installing it nice.
another 2k on the rear end. (9")
1k on shocks, shorter TQ arm, LCA relocation brackets and ET streets.
and a big stall...

you'll have a nice drag car.

1986-1991 mazda rx7.
find one for less than $500 and after throwing even just $5000 at the chassis and swap parts, it would be INSANE fun.... trust me!

personally i think S10's are ugly.. you could have a nice looking V6 camaro with a H/C LS1 set up... but if you have the $$ i'd do the RX7-LS1.. i would love to do that! From what people say they are faster thanks **** and handle good as hell also! They look real fun! Good luck at what you go with!

Sure, you can find good first gens for $11,000-$13,000 (there's a first gen Z28 running around town with a blown big block that the guy got for $13K), but you'll be pushing it real thin to get that LS1 A4 into it for $15,000 or less counting the cost of the car.

I'd say go with a thrid gen. You can get a very nice third gen (like a 25th anni) for like $5,000 or a junker for $1500. You can get an LS1 and tranny in there for about $3000 buying everything retail, I've read. There's $8500 total. Spend the other $1500 on go-fast or look-good parts.

EDIT: I don't know how much it would cost retail for all the parts to get a LS1 A4 in there, but it must be more expencive for a LS1 M6.
