I know there are guys running well over 400hp using this setup.
I've been finding plenty of these in my local pick-a-part.
It's nice because you can lose the u-joint half shafts which was the weaker part of these when you started to put hp to them and these are limited slip diffs.
Some guys are going slightly bigger and getting the diffs from Twin Turbo 300zxs, they're an R230 which is 230mm and roughly the same size as a 9" rear end.
The install is essentially the same and you can use the same axles mosler axles as I used.

Thanks for the pics of the rear. Nice fabricating!
So from the pics the diff is fastened with two bolts in the front . How is it attached in the rear? Looks like it gets bolted to that top crossbrace but I can't tell from the pics.
At the risk of imposing on you how wide is the diff from side flange to side flange and from the input flange to the center of the side flanges?
Who did your custom half shafts? Those are pretty beefy CV joints!
Thanks!

It mounts in the rear by the stock moustache bar (had to drill a couple of holes as the bolt spread is wider than the old diff).
I'll try to get some pics of that.
The axles are mosler, I got them and adapters to mount the CV joints to the hubs from a company called modern-motorsports, they primarily do Datsun stuff.
The CV joints are also from an Infiniti Q45, you use 4 inner cv joints and the custom axles.
Should be pretty bulletproof and it ran around 800 for everything (Pick a part for the diff and CV joints).

i agree! i would love to drive this car. im trying to decide whether i want to do a swap with a 240z or a 63 ford falcon sport coupe. the 240z would be a good ulta fast car the ford i would do an altered wheelbase old school drag car with a "trick" strait axle leaf spring front end haha.....

Excellent build. Very impressive!!!!

I am starting this conversion and building a daily driver. This is my first post on this site.

I have been lurking on this site for awhile learning everything I can.

The differences in my 240Z conversion though is I am going the fuel efficient route and have the ability to run regular gas. I am installing an LR4 4.8 with LS1 intake, oil pan, waterpump, and pullies from a '98-'02 Camaro/Firebird. I am going to use a much massaged 4L60E and the same Q45 axle as the thread starters.

As I am just starting (still in the process of cleaning and disassembly), threads like this are extremely helpful and informative

Very cool website!

The intake elbows are from jags that run (JTR).
I've heard they are also available from diesel truck places shich probably would have been cheaper.
