Default Long tubes on a Chevelle?

Well I am looking at a Chevelle conversion. Looks like I'm getting a 71 w/ a 70 front clip. I gotta have LT's and was curious if any chevelle guys here have found some?

pass side wasnt to bad, heated rail and persuaded it in a little. drivers side was the motor mount crossmeber, had to cut a spot from top to bottom and then form a piece to close it back and weld it in. to look at it now most people dont even notice,i have to point it out.

Hooker has a set of long tubes for 64-72 A-bodies with LSx engines. They showed them at SEMA and I believe they are shipping.

Any ideas on what mounts they were designed with, S&P or BRP?

Good news.

I had an idea last night and I am going to try it I think. I believe that if you can buy just the LS1 header flanges, cut the tubes of a set of BBC headers right at the flange then you can weld them onto the LS1. I am going to try it so I will keep you updated

I think Hooker is offering its own mounts, but they may very well be the same as S&P mounts.

Where some of the difference is coming from on some LTs fit some cars and not others is that the 64 thru 67 A Bodies actually hung the motor further forward in relation to the frame crossmember. Just go look at any 67 down V8 car and notice how the frame brackets swoop way forward, much more than a 68 thru 72 and thats why your car required frame mods. All the "good" headers (like Hooker race stuff) for Chevelles list different part #s for 64-67 and 68-72 and thats why. The cheaper headers that are listed for 64 thru 72 will always have a LOT of clearance at the back of the crossmember when installed on a 68 up. HTHs.......... Bill

Update for future searchers....

Hooker Super Comp LT headers fit perfectly on my car... Had to lift the passenger side of engine to clear 4l80e bell housing.... Big deal.

I bought them off of here in the classfied section. Got a killer deal. Tipical smashed up Camaro with bolt on mods... I'm just running them with the satin black finish on them for now. The car is in total mock up this summer. Over next winter full cage, clean interior, pulling fenders, fixing rust, etc.... Pretty stuff comes last on my budget.

The rest of the exhaust isn't finished up but I approve of the quality of them... Bolted up perfectly. Just used a header bolt kit from Sanderson that my buddy had laying around. Car isn't running right now so I can't comment on that part but I hear lots of good things about the headers...

heres a few pics... Not the best but they will do unless you want better ones?

Sweet! Engine bays in chevelles are massive, it was inevitable that there was a stock header that would fit. '98+ f-body headers just about fit in my car, too. Looking good, matt. One question- what's the square cutout box in your cowl? You putting your PCM there?
