what are you thinking???? <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> thats the coolest thing ever and what else would it cost to drop a new motor, bore and stroke it, and exaust etc. etc. etc.

Maybe you LSx guys are used to spending $15k-$20K to bore and stroke a motor, but not us LT1 folks!
I admit that it is an interesting thing to do, and the car is certainly unique, but if I had that kind of money to drop on an Impala, I would be shooting for first full framed Impala SS in the 9's, not first LS1 (Bored, stroked, or otherwise). A low 12 or high 11 for an SS is faster than most, but not earth shattering. Or why not go big block? For that money, a Merlin BB would be just as unique, and the power potential is much greater. The coolest thing ever? That would be a Merlin BB with a big roots blower sticking up thru the hood!

Mike,
With a 409, I would expect the price to be higher, more money for parts and machine work. A budget 383 with cast crank, forged rods and pistons, good set of LT1 heads and other needed bolt ons may go over $5k, but not by much. The 383 will not make the torque the 409 does, but with a 306 cam, you can get it to 420 rwHP. I bet your 409 makes more power than the LS6, and I bet you spent a lot less than $20k for it. BTW, you need to ditch the hot cam. You'll be a lot happier with a bigger cam in the 409. 11's on the motor of an Impala has been done with a 396 LT1. Jorge Perez ran a 11.6x on motor, then ran a 10.19 on the bottle.
