Just go for the LS1! GM had to test the motors in the C4's before they put them into the C5's so it should fit fairly well.

Depends, do you already have the C4?! If so, just rebuild the motor in it. If not, then you can get wrecks or theft recovery cars for next to free, and go from there. I'm as much of an LS1 fan as the next guy, but from a cost standpoint, if you already have a complete C4, work with the LT1. Figure $5500 just for the crate LS1, $1200 in wiring and PCM (at least) $600 (at least) on exhaust, and "only" 320hp. Scoggin Dickey has the 383 "bullet proof" LT1 shortblock for $4500 (I think) put the GM LT4 kit on there for another $2000, $300 for PCM program, and re-use any of the other stuff from the old LT1, and for about the same price, not fabbing or chopping, you've got about 400 at the wheels. Get your LT1 heads and intake done, different cam, for the same $2000, and even more hp!!! It all up to you and your $$$ situation. Good luck, and let us know what you decide!!

thnx for the ideas 30th TA . o the choices. im torn between buying a 1998 and up ls1 powered f-body or buying a 93-96 vette. they are both about the same price and they both have good qualities. but for sure the better engine is the ls1 so thats a biggie. i dont have either yet but i will have 1 in about 3-4 months. so lt1 vette or ls1 f-body? dont know, but id sure like a ls1 powered c4 vette! maybe ill make that happen.....

I agree, the LS1 is way better, and the C4 is well, a Vette I would seriously start looking into getting a salvage C4, and maybe a rebuildable LS1 from Valvegod (is he still around?) and reworking the LS1 and tweaking the C4s known weaknesses. There are plenty of Vette salvage places. That way you can have something very personalized, and more importantly, fast

If you bought a running C4, I'd look into doing a 383 or 396ci motor. They'll run mid 11's no problem.

hey john are u talking 383, 396 LT1 or LS1? i just think a LS1 powered c4 vette would be kick ***. whatever it comes down to in the future, i will be doing a stroker. either LT1 or LS1. LS1 just attracts me more......

30th TA 0219 made good points... about the cost.

If I ever found a 85-96 Vette rolling chassis I'd probably stuff an LS1 in there.. But not a 96 C4... The #'s don't work unless you are picking up the car for $7-8K. I have a local buddy who has a 92 for sale for $14k if you are interested email me.

For the money you spent putting an LS1 in a C4, you could have a nice little blower setup running mid-low 11's at 122+ mph. LT1's are EXCELLENT motors and can be built to run just as quick. Most guys who have only owned an LS1 don't know that.
