I would say yes. I recieved a harness with my engine, but I went with Street and Performance for simplicity and VATS.

VATS is vehicle anti theft system. Street and Performance harness has a module that bypasses it. One cool thing is that you can unplug it or wire in a switch that will keep the engine from being started, no way to hot wire this. The harness are less than a thousand dollars.

LS1Edit can remove the VATS function from the PCM.

Yea I was thinking $1000.00 is high for a harness.I am not shure what the painless harness costs but I know its not a grand.

For the overpriced S&P harness you can afford to have Speartech rework your OEM harness and buy LS1_Edit!

I'm doing a truck motor with 4L60E in my Jeep TJ.

The guy that ran a 13.9 in his TJ... I have emailed him and have pics of his rig up on my site. Lemme dig 'em up...

Ah yes, here they are:

http://www.chitownsyty.com/bg/jeepstuff/TJLS1/

Here's the page I've put together for my swap so far:

http://www.chitownsyty.com/bg/jeepstuff/v8_tech.htm

I'd say going with LS1 edit is a GOOD idea.. if you set codes for any reason, you can disable them, not to mention the custom calibration mods you can do.

What are you looking to do with your jeep? Offroad or race?

What is your budget?

What are your goals otherwise?
automatic, jeep 5 speed?
keep stock transfercase?
mileage?

i drive it every day.It has 8" of lift with 36" swampers.I want the 4l60e.As of now I have 373s and have to run in 4th gear because 5th drops off to much.I have 456s in the shop just havent felt like putting them in because I think I am going to swap them for 488s.The reason being is I am going up 2 1/2 more " and putting 37s on it.I like to hill climb and rock crawl.I plan on leaving the 231 for now until I get saved up for a atlas2.Email me and I can send you some pics of it.

Yeah I was going with the 5.3, then the 4.8, now I have a line on a 5.3 again.

There are lots of little issues you'll have to consider; I'm pretty sure I've got a solution to all of them so far <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I'm using a regular truck harness that I'll modify to work in my application. I'd rather use an LS1 motor, but they are more expensive than the truck motors.

I've emailed him back and forth several times.
I don't think he has much more done now.. he may have been doing something with the transfercase or transmission - he was still using the Jeep 5 speed. I thought it was pretty cool that he was getting 22-24mpg. Beats the hell out of the 16 or so I have to TRY to get in my Jeep.
