Default Ok, newbie question(s)

Well guys, this is a killer board I must say! There seems to be a TON of info here. I have looked thru all the posts from the past year in this section, but could not find all the info. Here goes. I have a '69 Camaro that I have a twin turbo'd 350 in. I also have a new 'Vette LS1 sitting in the floor beside it. Hmmmm... But it does not have a computer or harness. I plan on using a FAST setup for the computer. What kind of issues am I going to have with swapping the engines? I have read that the F body oilpan will work with mods, how about the 'Vette pan? Will the 'Vette accessory setup in the stock frame of the '69? I am not going to us the A/C because of too much stuff in the front anyway. We plan on fabbing up our own headers and exhaust for it. Is there room enough for this in a stock engine compartment? What are the best options for motor mounts? Do any of the off the shelf ones put the engine in the same location as the small block? I am planning on using the TH350 behind it and would like to not have to fab a trans crossmember and make a new driveshaft. Right now, I have the turbos up in front of the engine and the downpipes going beside the valvecover and down by the firewall. Will the same basic location work with the LS1? Are they physically taller or shorter than a traditional small block? Also, the throttle is (I guess) controlled by wire, I have the pedal with the engine, how the heck do I make that work with the car?
Thank you for the help guys, I am sure I will be needing lots more in the future!

Check www.teamcamaro.com for the tranny crossmember. there is a guy makes the kit for the clutch and all that. And allso can find him at www.pro-touring.com under tech I beleive.

I used S&P motor mounts. If you can fabricate headers thats good. You got to use mod. T/A Camaro oil pan. I beleive Speartech Fuel Inj. syst. can make the trotle work but I dont know if you can incorporate it with aftermarket computer. For the gas pedal you can get Locker pedal or mod. your gas pedal.
Let us know how your turbo setup is bec. that's crossing my mind to. You might talk to John at speartech about using stock computer if it is good for turbo set up.

Thanks for the input. I plan on using the TH350 trans in it since that is what I have. With your S&P motor mounts, did it put the eingine in the same place (front to rear) as a stock small block?
With the engine management, I plan on using a FAST setup, since I have NO computer or harness now.

Thanks, Do you know if the Lokar pedal will work with the 'Vette throttle body? Since it does not run off a cable? Or am I going to have to change it to a F body throttle body?

You'll have to change over to a F-body throttle body to use the Lokar pedal and cable. Here are some pictures to compare the throttle bodies.

I've got some pictures of the lokar stuff on my website somewhere. I can take some more detailed ones if you want.

Jeremy- Thanks for the info man. I did not know how to retrofit the 'Vette gas pedal to the Camaro. I went to your pics and one of my friends sent me the one of the engine installed and from the front a few months ago. I still got it saved in my computer Looks like it will be pretty sweet. I'll get back with you on some other q's.

I was wondering what you are doing for your wiring harness b/c i am doing the exact same setup as you except i will be running a/c. This is pretty cool, b/c i have never heard of anyone else using the same trans. as I am.

From what I understand, if I go with the FAST (as planned) computer, I can just bypass it thru the programming of it and have the computer just run the engine, nothing else. Unless I can get an electronic boost controller and program that into the computer!

Sounds like a fun project! Got any photos of the current car and setup? My first car was a 1969 Camaro and I'll build another someday with a nice LS1 powerplant. Twin-Turbo setup is also my favorite, one of the machinists at MTI has a '69 with a twin-turbo LT1, painted millenium yellow with Z06 vette wheels. It also has a 6-speed in it. Sweet ride!

We had some issues with the cam position sensor version of the FAST setup on a C5-R project at MTI. Ended up returning that setup and going with a crank trigger/sensor type setup and it worked great.

The LS1 should buy you some flexibility on where you wish to mount the engine. It can sit much closer to the firewall than a traditional SBC because there is no distributor in the back.

Tony-
If you work at MTI, I will prolly be asking you a few q's in the future!! The car is in the latest (March 03)issue of Chevy High Performace with a feature of it in the previous set up. You can also see pics of it at www.pro-touring.com in the cars section under first gen Camaro's and under Jimmys twin turbo Camaro.
What are you talking about with the problems with the crank trigger? Is it with the computer options or with the actual engine sensor? You have to forgive me, I have never messed with an LS1, or fuel injection and computers for that matter!!

Or better yet, here is the link to the pro touring board directly.

Track times have changed a little since then.
