Default Ls1 Chevelle performance???

Based on some of the posts I've seen it looks like several of you guys are running ls1 powered Chevelles. I am planning to swap an Ls1 or Lq9 into my 1972 monte carlo (which is pretty much the same car as the Chevelle). Anyway my question is what kind of quarter mile, 0-60, etc. times are you guys running and with what mods? I know our cars are heavy and I was wondering how much power I need to make to get mine moving decently and what mods are the best way to accomplish that. Thank you for your help!

My 74 Camaro is no lightweight either. (3830 man. curb weight) . However if you go with the LS1 you'll be lightening the load dramatically. Especially if you lose the A/C . Look for a weight of around 3500-3600 depending on how much you keep. Look at it this way, you'll be getting the power of a big block but at the weight of a v6. As far as times, IF you can get it to hook( and you can drive an M6 well) you should be in the mid 13's at the very least with 0-60 in about 5 sec. Now, a little cam and heads and tires and you'll be deep in the 12's.
I had an A4 01 SS with a lid, maf, and a cutout and I ran A 12.96 @ 108 on stock rubber , stock gears , and stock converter with a weight of 3450 ( 3660 lbs. with me ). Now with my 74 Camaro 1. I have more gear 3.42 vs. 3.23 2. it's lighter 3280 lbs. vs. 3450 lbs. 3. it has an LS6 with longtube headers ( should be atleast in the 355-365 rwhp range vs. my very lightly modded 01 SS at 326 rwhp but the only way to find out is to take it to the track!! Next month it'll be ready I hope ... not going to wait to paint it then race it - can't wait that long . Shooting for mid 12's .

Default Thanks

Thank you for your info! I was just afraid that even with a modded ls1 my 4000 pound car would be horribly slow. But I guess the ls1 would drop some weight from the car and with enough horsepower I could get this big beast moving. Thanks again.

The 2004-2005 GTO is ~3750 and close to 4000lbs with big driver and full tank of fuel. The GTO is going to be a lot more aerodynamic, but you can look it it's performance results to help judge.

My Corvette with a cammed LS1 runs 12.90 @ 109mph in the quarter. This is on very bad street tires but the car probably weighs about 3000lbs without me in it. With more tire, it's probably capable of 12.70-12.60 (maybe).

My '05 GTO (400hp LS2) ran 13.6 at 103 the one time I took it to the track. They weigh about 3700lbs without driver. There's a few tenths left with a better launch but with the stock tires, I don't think I could get it to run much quicker than mid 13s.

I am the 10.51 guy. LS1's are pretty neat. In spring, same setup, with a few adjustments, I will be in the 9's @ about 145 mph on pumpgas. All I really did to the motor was swap rods and pistons. The Ls1 is an easy swap into my Chevelle, Just modding the pan, harness, and make motor mounts are the only major things.
