What do you guys think? I think I'm about 3 weeks from building my exhuast system. Im looking for equal parts performance, sound, and cost effectiveness. Im leaning toward a 2.5" system with an x pipe and 2 three chamber flowmasters. Ive also thought about the Spintech side exhaust system, but its kidna pricey, also dont wanna burn my girlfriends legs as she gets out of the car she wouldnt be too happy! Also wanna cut down on as much interior resonance as possible. So what works well with an LS1 with S&P headers? any suggestions??

lol, i just replied to your first post dubb.
To answer your question, I did, and yes it can be a major pain. MAJOR, but ive also had alot fun doing it. 1st gens are great cars and LS1s are great engines.

Nothing really special about the TPIS unit. It was the only one I was aware of at the time that I started my project. Painless was not selling thiers at the time and I had no clue about S&P. The TPIS harness is pretty much like everyone elses, it was actually made by Howell Racing and distributed through TPIS. I didnt know that until I had to send it back to them for a repair, which I had no problems with by the way. Its a good harness, just not as well known as the bigger names.

I would use ATR stainless mufflers. Mine was great with the 305 TPI. No resonance in the car great flow and a menacing tone.

I'm planning on using the flowmaster system that only uses the one muffler in the stock location. My main reason for this is ground clearance. My camaro is dropped 2 inches with the Hotchkis springs so clearance is a big issue for me.
LS-1ST-GEN, How do you like them S&P headers? I'm just about ready to order a set.

68 ragtop,
The S&P headers are great, the shine is kinda wearing off of them though, im hopeing they will polish up. The bolted up no problems (after i sent them back to be adjusted) and S&P has really good customer service.
70 LS1, what kind of mufflers are you using?

If you are going to make any kind of mods at all in the future I would suggest 3" duals. As for mufflers, if you are going to run tails pipes I would highly recommend the DynoMax Super Turbo's. They have the least amount of back pressure for a "quiet" muffler. More importantly, this will be the sweetest sounding exhaust you have ever heard with the "X" pipe installed. I can honestly tell you as can anyone that has been in my car that this set-up cannot be out done for the absolute wickest sounding exhaust

I would go with the 2.5" with X pipe, but would not choose the flowmasters because of the resonance. Flowmasters always seem to have a resonance about them. I am running a chambered setup. Sounds a lot like the GMMG pipes for the F-bodies and the old corvette side pipes, mellow at idle and quite loud when you are on it. A little raspy too. Sounds like a smooth running muscle car. Now I just need that new cam for the lumpy idle.

John, are the super turbos and 3 inch quiet enough for a daily driver? The engine wont be internally modified anytime within the next year or so.

My car is a daily driver and all points considered is reasonably quiet with "normal" running it through the gears and cruising. At freeway speeds it's a quiet fish
