Default New Moderator and project intro.

Here's some info from the newest "Conversions & Hybrids" moderator. I had been spending lots of time in this forum anticipating my retrofit, so I requested to be a forum moderator. I still have the "Street Racing/Kills Section" to moderate also.

My project over the winter is to put a LS1/T56 into my 67 Camaro. I work at a large LS1 shop/sponsor (TSP ) so the drivetrain parts are quite easy to attain. Its currently sitting as a rolling chassis, but the new powerplant is sitting on an engine stand waiting for the next step as is the T56. This car has been through quite a few different engine/transmission setups since I've owned it such as a 355ci/TH350 383ci/700R4 and the last one was a ZZ4 350 with modded Vortec Heads, and another 700R4. The last one had about 2-3 miles on it when I pulled it out, the others lasted a few hundred miles before being retired.

The chassis has all new suspension, poly bushings thoughout the whole car. Comp Eng. Subframe connectors. I just installed 3.73 gears in the 10-bolt, but may end up with a 9" or 12-bolt if I am too hard on it. I will be ordering/making the main conversion parts through Dec/Jan and should have it running in Feb.

The current plans after the initial install are to have my friends at HP Performance built a single turbo kit similiar to their Fox-body Mustang kit that is very popular with the 'stang ppl. I happen to have one of those too which I race with when its together. (11.1 @ 121mph) The Camaro should be a little faster than that though, if I take it to the track that is. My thinking is, that if I'm spending lots of cash for conversion headers already, why not have turbo's on the end of them.

Hey Jeremy, yes it should be a good driver car, so making the trip should be easy, I'll even have room for the slick/skinny's in the trunk. None of my other project cars would last driving that far, lol. BTW whats the fastest LS1 that you know of in NM? My friends TTC5 went 10.58 @ 138 in Roswell, thats the fastest I've known of.

NICE! 10.58 in Roswell is awesome. I was fastest here last time I checked but that was up here at alb drag way 11.1@125.

Shoulda made the trip to ol roswell again with the procharger to get into the mid to low tens with it, before I went to the turbo wallet drainer of doom.

As for the trip up here, I made the trip to Roswell in my bird with ET streets and skinnies both ways My ET's were toast after that but it was fun.

Joseph,

Just curious, what engine-mount and crossmember set-up are you planning on using?

By the way, welcome and you guys at TSP are awesome!

I'm planning to use the S+P style mounts although I havn't ordered anything mount-related just yet. I'd like to have the rear of the motor as close to the bulkhead as possible. As far as the t56 stuff I'll probably get the crossmember and master cylinder mounting kit from BMR Fabrication and modify it for the LS1 setup, its supposed to be for LT1 dimensions as it is.

I going to order the engine side parts in about 2 weeks so I can at least get that bolted up. I'm still doing some research as to whats best for my setup. I'd like to run the ATS pan and prob would if I didn't already have a oil pan to mod, so its either "free" and some time or pay $500.
