gear ratio suggestions

well I am goning to order new gears for my rear today and I am looking for suggestions on ratio cause I have never ran the t56 tranny. The car is a 67 camaro street & show car for a 17 year old, so I am not interested in drag gears, it has the ls1 t56 the rear is an 8.5 and I am installing a new eaton limited slip carrier . I cant remember what the ratios are on the t56 So lets here some suggestions from your experience.

I am running 3.70:1 gears with my 4L60 trans and 29" tall tire. The ratio seems to be a great compromise of performance and drivability. I can cruise through the desert to Las Vegas as well as run a 100 mph 1/4 mile. The T56 has overdrive ratios in fifth and sixth gear so you would want to keep all six gears "usable". I suppose you need to figure your rear tire size first. I think my LS-1 is happiest at 2000 RPM and 70 MPH in overdrive, converter locked.....3.70 gears.

I recomend 3.90 gears
With the T56 and rear tire diameter around 26" (Stock) you will have the mix of quick light to light but with great highway cruising (estimated 3000 rpm at 60 mph.

I would recommend either 3.90 or 4.10 ish. With the 3.90's you will turn 1800 RPM in 6th at 70mph. With the 4.10's you will be more like 1900 RPM in 6th at 70 mph.

I have 3:90's and it actually makes 6th usable on the highway. 2K is about 80mph. A 3:73 would work as well. Anything higher (meaning 3:08/3:23/3:55 etc) would not work well IMO.

127.4mph in the 1/4 in 4th and still a bunch of RPM left....

I have a 4.1 rear end in my RX7. Not bad in gears 4 thru 6 but in the lower gears its a little slow if you shift at 3K rpm. I think I'd like 3.7.

i'm doing the exact same thing, and i got 4:10's...... 3.73's would be better for cruising i hear, but i looked all over camaros.net, for people that have the T56, and most are running 4:10's. With a stock height rear tire, they say that at 1900RPM you'll be turning 70mph. Sounds very reasonable to me. Plus with the 4:10's, you get neck-snapping acceleration if you can hook up =)
and what's the use of a '67 camaro if you can't blow the doors off anything that pulls up next to you at the light
