Default vehicle speed sensor question

I got my ls1 in my 73 vette and im ready to start the wiring,i already had a 87 t/a tpi motor with a 700r4 in it which im keeping the 700 in it ,i have a painless wiring vss adapter already on my 700.My question is what does the ls1 use for vss and what pulse is it,i know the tpi motors used either 2000 or 4000 pulse.Or can the pcm be programmed to not use it.
Heres basically what i have now.part number 60115

Your old VSS is a square wave, the LSx motors use a sine wave output sensor with a lot more pulses. For some reason I can`t remember the specifics right now, but the info you need is at Jags that run. Just go to their site and you can download ch13 of their conversion guide, it has all the specs of the vehicle speed sensors.

cool thanks,ill check it out.
ok so the way i read it it says that the older tpi is square wave 2000 pulse and the newer motors are a 4000 pulse sien wave.SOi need either the #4pac from jags that run or the other one from painless.thanks again for the info.

The LS1 A4s use a 40 tooth reluctor ring on the output shaft, depending on the rear gear and tire size the VSS can output over 100,000 pulses per mile so an old 4 pulse aint gonna cut it! You might talk to a reprogrammer to see if they can do it but it will require reprogramming at a minimum. Bill

I was just looking in my hptuners last night, and you can manualy change the vss settings, vss output pulses/mile, vss pulses/mile, vss pulses/ mile, vss pulses/rev.
I'm doing a 5.3L/4l60E swap into a 3rd gen, and the transmission was a 4x4 so I don't have the tailstock or a vss. I was thinking of using a speedo cable pulse generator, then I would be able to retain the cable driven speedo.

The autos run 40 pulse and the manual is 16 or 17 pulse, so depending on your pcm is what you need to run, although HP tuners is able to set it to whatever you want.

I emailed Dakota digital about there pulse generator, and they said it gives off an 8000 pulse/mile AC sine signal. So the pcm should have no problem reading it, I just have to correct the pulse setting with hptuners.

I'm going to have a weird transmission setup, it was a 4wd early style 4L60E, I'm taking the output shaft, and tailstock off the 2.8L 700r4, so it with be a cable driven speedo 4L60E.

Jagsthatrun.com makes a kit that relocates the factory 4L60E reluctor wheel and adds a mech speedo to the existing shaft which would save you from trans disassembly to swap the shaft. Bill
