Default LS1 in a Pontiac Fiero?

Can the stock 5-SPEED Getrag handle the power of a modified (heads and cam LS1)?
Would the axles break due to the added power?
What do you guys think?

There's a site that specializes in V8 Fiero swaps , www.V8archie.com , check with him.I seriously doubt that the stock tranny/ axles will live long behind a modded LS1 , he could steer you in the right direction on what you'd need to keep it in one piece.

A good site for Fiero information.
http://www.fiero.nl/cgi-bin/fiero/Ul...i?action=intro
If you search on this site you will find lots of posts with people blowing trans and breaking axles with V6 and V8 engines.

Also look down a couple of threads in this forum.
This one “Hybrids and the 1/4 mile”
This guy is cryo treating the trans case and internals. I am waiting to see how this works out. The Fiero trans is only rated at 250 ft lbs of torque.

Tranny would be the worry, having custom 300M axles made isn't particularly cost prohibitive.

The 4T65e-hd can take the power, but then you're stuck with an automatic.

If you want to mate an LS1 to a 4T65e-hd this is the guy to speak to.

The stock Getrag cannot handle the power. As for axles, what usually breaks them is worn out carrier bearings on the final drive causing the splines to bind. For custom axles though, I've gotten quotes from $700 to $1700, with the $700 having a six month warranty against breakage and the $1700 set be guaranteed not to break, period.

I should elaborate about the tranny. It must be rebuilt and strengthened to have even a slight chance of remaining intact. I'm most likely going to have to have some billet parts made since the aftermarket is scarce for the Getrag 282s. The diff carriers from later models are stronger though, hence why I'm using a '93 Cavalier tranny.

Its the March 2006 issue. Has the Camaro and Challenger Concepts on the cover. The Fiero is on page 75. Its an LS1 with LS6 intake. As ^^^^ said, Gettrag 5-speed transaxle. Also has a Centerforce clutch and flywheel, beefed-up suspension, custom longtubes, and a 150 shot. They claim that the engine makes 508 rwhp and 542 rwlb-ft.
Imagine how much fun the owner has at the steet and track

V8 Archie has a Getrag F40 (i think thats it) 6spd transmission, which is the Pontiac G6 transmission, (i think agian) but i saw it in one of his posts, the entire master kit comes with all the parts (providing you have the LS1 in your car), new transmission clutch, and axels, its $4,650.00 for a normal SBC but its $5,000.00 For the ls1 kit. so here you go.

88 Fiero GT 5spd: $2,500.00
LS1 Engine Swap (stock): $3,000.00
V8 Archies SBC Swap Kit: $3,250.00
V8 Archies F40 6spd Swap: $5,000.00
Making the car look NICE: $2,500.00 (Includes home done paint job)
Doing the interior Swap: $2,000.00

Total Cost: $18,250.00

Which you could have a pretty fast f-body. Id say if you bought a 98 LS1 (10k +/-)

HP Tuning Turbo Kit: $8000.00
Shipping (Whatever): $250.00

650hp/700tq = 10s

But throw a Heads & cam package in the fiero and you can run mid 10s

So its all irrelivent (spelling). Its just for someone who WANTS to do it. and doesnt care.

(i.e. People who have more money than sence, or people who dont have the money but will wait as long as it takes to get the job done!!! ME!!! )

So it can be done, but it will be a whole lot faster than a Camaro/TA in the LOOOOOOONG run. because of the 1000lb less weight. but its all up to you.

Im gonna try to do it.

- Cody

PS: If you didnt care about how it looked, then just forget about the exterior/interior. and if it was gonna be a stock ls1. forget about the 6spd trans, save yourself 9,500 bucks. and have a mid to low 12sec car. for $8,750.00 thats more potential than most cars... mabey even any ive ever seen. add a H/C kit, or mabey even a Supercharger @ 8psi. can you say 500 +/- hp? thats low 10s for only $12,500 considering your a mechanic. Can a trans am/camaro say that? maybe, i dont know.

I just really like 2 seater small cars that handel well and look cool, plus i love ls1's so why not put together best of both worlds!!!
