Default 50 state legal Cat for LS1?

Dropping 99 C5 LS1 into my 82 C3. In CA, after doing a swap you have to go to the referee to be legal. The ref will look for legal cats, but much to my horror, I have yet to find 50 state legal aftermarket cats for the LS1. Please, somebody tell they exist and where I can find them. The GM cats are $650/pc. . . . from gmpartsdirect; like $900/pc from a dealer. Don't really want to go there.

I am in the same boat - putting vette ls1 into my 79 C3. Gotta have the OBDII port also I hear.

Are you putting a single cat in same location as your original, or going dual cats? In the code they seem to indicate you should only replace with same number and location - have seen folks have got dual cats approved by referee though. Seems like LS1's would run cleaner with 2 also...

Once and a while you see folks selling their oem cats from F and y body cars for $100 or less ....

I called the CA bureau of automotive repair and they had a supervisor call me back. He said that you can have more cats than the original, but not less. As for the distance from the exhaust he said I needed to speak to a referee supervisor. I haven't called them yet.

I've been searching around for cats for a little while now. Here's what I've found:

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/super_specs.pdf

They have CARB numbers, but mention that they're not legal for OBD-II. Not sure if the referee can be talked into it since it's a conversion. My guess is no.

And I had also found the car-sound ones you put a link to. I've heard positive things about them and that's probably what I'm going with.

There was one other I found, but I'm having trouble finding my notes file with the info on it.
