Wiring (back in May also):

Here's what I'm working on today:

Lots of wires for engine/trans management.

It's taken more than a few hours just to get to this point....

And here's what I accomplished this morning:

I decided to box the frame where I clearanced it for the ac compressor. I haven't seen too many guys post pics of notched frames, so hopefully this will give some an idea of what it requires in an A-body. My welding skills aren't the best so please go easy. Overall, I'm happy w/ how it turned out.

I swear I've done more than this in the past 4 months...when I get the engine and everything back situated in the car, I'll post some more updates for those interested. I want to try to make a pass before the season is over, wishful thinking :'(

4) Would you mind a phone call to talk over the setup? You are in Vegas right? Next time I am down there, could I possibly look the car over? I can bring a 12er for your time
1) Yep, w/ the correct backspacing and probably rolling the outer wheelwells.

2) Ill post some pics soon

3) Hot Rod Air. They make an adapter for the LSx style compressors also

4) PM me if you want...I don't really but hit me up if you're in town.

Actually, the top one is the real pain in the ***...didn't think that one through as much as I should have . I'm going with one of those flexible stainless kits. I'm not the hugest fan of thier looks, but it' will be easer than finding hoses that happen to fit or fabbing up something from stainless tubing...cheaper too.

Me too

I'm glad to see there's some interest in the project, keeps me motivated! Here's some udated pics, pretty self explanatory:
coil wires routed

upper radiator hose routed

bov mounted up and intake piping welded up

revised the gauge cluster a little and mounted the controls for the hvac

trunk mounted battery/cutoff switch/remote starter solenoid

pretty much got everthing wired up with the exception of running a few grounds here and there. I'm going to leave everthing pretty loose for now in case I have to chase down any gremlins. Once that's squared away, I'll get everything tied up, loomed, and out of the way.

Things left to do:
run the turbo supply/drain lines
radiator lower hose
figure out how to adapt my mechanical temp sender to my setup (I'll have to tap something, hopefully won't be the head )
heater/ac hoses crimped and routed (may hold off on that til final assembly)
tweak the intake piping from the turbo to the intercooler
mount trans cooler/run lines to tras
and about a millon other little things here and there

School's been taking priority right now so it may be a while before I get to start it up

There is a plug in the back of the pass head on LS1s that you can remove and put a NPT plug in, thats what I did on my Rx7

Was that for a mechanical or electrical temp sender?

Man what an awesome project.
One question though. Maybe I just could not see it, but is your turbo braced to something, or is it just hanging on the tubing. Dealing with many turbo cars in the past, tubular headers are prone to cracking. And with that monster on there, I would just keep an eye out.

Yep, I bolted it to the alternator/power steering bracket with some 1/4" angle iron if you can spot it in this pic

Made some more progress, mainly tying up loose ends.
Got the turbo piping finalized; here's a couple of pics showing how I ran the piping from the turbo to the intercooler.

Some pics of the engine bay with pretty much everything done w/ the exception of vacuum lines and pcv system. Got the oil line ran, still need to hook up the drain to the pan (waiting on a fitting).

Finally pulled the car out of the garage to check the stance and take some pics.

I'll probably redo the tailpipe so it's tucked up under the car more. I don't really like how it turned out, unfortunately I ran out of bends when doing the exhaust

It's pretty close to being time to start it up. I'm getting anxious

Them poor tires don't stand a chance!

Just our of curiosity, why did you choose that location for the turbo? Is your wastegate doing to hit the shroud, on and off throttle?

Man you have to put up a video once it's up and running!

That was the easiest place for me to mount it off of one of the engine brackets. It's mounted with 1/4" angle iron to the alternator/p/s bracket for support. This was my first real fabrication/turbo build so it's been a learning experience, I would definitely do some things differently if I did it again. Pictures are always hard to see real dimensions in...the wastegate is about 1/4 to 1/2" away from the fan shroud so it should be okay I think. Hopefully things won't move around too much but it might be wishful thinking
