IIRC, EFILive does not support the 98, but HP tuners does. My car has been tuned without any problems. The 98's are not the most desireable for a lot of little tings that were changed/improved in 99, but they are generally the cheapest.

For the PCM? The design changes, but I do not think the basic programming changed.

EFILive not only supports the 98, but supports them for FREE

99+ is more valuable to you if going boosted, otherwise not much of a difference for most folks.

I think that is pretty recent, but I stand corrected.

I don't see how the 98 is more expensive with HP Tuners, but I could be wrong.

What do you mean by free?

98 harnesses and PCMs are the cheapest out of all the years I've seen. You can't probably buy them both for around 4-500 on ebay.

98 pcms are more expensive, since they are more rare, and are required for the original ls1 conversion harnesses.

EFI live supports them for free, but you need to have access to a EFI live cable to do so. .

Is it possible to swap a 99+ ecm onto an otherwise stock 98 LS1? I'm thinking about buying a complete 98 LS1 (engine, trans, harness, ecm) and want to put a newer ECM on it. Will it work?

No, 98's are unique. The 99+ pcm/harnesses are essentially the same.
