F-Bobby, teehee! Can I use that as a quote in my sig?!

Honestly the '05 GTO I use as a daily driver attracts too much attention, even with tinted windows. I guess I should not complain when they sell half as many C6s.

The reason for the estimate in weight is when I removed everything I weigh it on the digital bathroom scale, aside from the engine and tranmission which the weight is published. Remember on those old cars, lesser than C5 and later all suspension components were stamped steel. Now Buick Rendevous AWD have aluminum subframe and control arms.

The LS1 might gain 100 lbs. and bigger brakes and tires might break even with the 1980's stock Beretta stuff. We're working with almost all aluminum as opposed to the stock steel stuff. Along with no AC and power steering support I am looking at 2500 lbs. There is over 50% weight savings with alum. over steel.

http://www.key-to-metals.com/Article99.htm

A trip to the scale will verify but the power to weight ratio of the Beretta with 350whp will match the C6 Z06. The aluminum over steel on moving suspension components should be easily controlled by the shocks.

I knocked closed to 12 lbs. off each corner on my '05 GTO going with lighter weight SSR GT2 and wheels compared to stock. You can feel turn-in better and the ride quality is better.

The latest Car and Driver has a review of some American supercars. Look at the times from 100-150 in the high hp, high down force Saleen and lower hp Mosler. Saleen cannot match the Mosler. There is more than just weight differences going on.

What exactly happened to the C5? Are you going to try to use the C5 wheels as well? I bet this will be a sweet car when it's done.

It looks like a roll over. The only history is the VIN and they usually don't say much other than it is a salvage title. Which means the frame is probably tweaked and worth repairing. That is fine with me as I just need the rolling chasis. I'll give a full report with pics.

Yes, the whole rolling chasis is going under the Beretta, wheels and all.

Two days to pick it up and a little more than two to disassemble....

..and guess what the C5 sub frame measures at it's widest point? Yup, 36 inches! The hole centers are slightly smaller but with the wider GTO rails compared to my project car. This is getting interesting(Norm rubs his hands together!)

Very similar project, making the old new again. At least up to date from 1988.

I will not useing the frame like you did since the Beretta is uni-body. With it being FWD to start out with the rear will have to reinforced.

That should be quite looker with great handling when your finished.

How about some carnage photos? Jim cut out the airbags with a knife, but I did not take a pic. He was removing the rear left fender liner and found some masonary that I know was not used as sound deadening. There is a few more pieves still in there. The right rear wheel was bent as you can see in one of the previous photos. In this batch is a picture of the broken hub. Another pic shows a rock that has gone half way through the floor.
