Default CORBRETTA is born!

I plan on swapping out the rolling chasis from a '97-'04 C5 and wanted to a complete electrical system swap, tail lights to headlights. The wheel base and track width are within an inch between the C5 Corvette and Beretta. Thought about the placement of the pedals and steering column and going to do the dash, center console, and might as well do the door skin innards so everything matches up somewhat.

I am going to try to use the C5 gas tanks in the corners of the trunk. If that don't work I just use a fuel cell. Removing all the steel suspension components from the car, along with engine/trans., netted 1300 lbs. loss in weight from the 2700 lbs. Beretta. Should be interesting to see how much it weighs adding all that aluminum.

Why a Beretta? It is a vintage 1988 and I purchased it new. The thing just will not rust away so I keep thinking of things to do with it.

Wow are you that bored?

I would just drive the C5.

But, it's yours to do whatever you want.

It would be a nice sleeper car. I think no one has ever done this swap.

I already had '99 Hardtop. Don't look to have another since I have an '05 GTO. Should be fitting up a rear subframe this weekend. I'll post pics.

I fitted up a C5 rear subframe to the Beretta. I bought it early in order to do some beta fitting for brackets/adapters. The leading edge looks to tie into the stock spring perch and the trailing edge will mount to the floor pan next to the rail. There was some concern that the Beretta rails might be higher than the C5 and the chasis riding too high. This is about as low as it will go without the independent transmission drive shaft contacting the rail putting the wheel into the wheel well. I might have to shim the height a bit.

No more FWD donuts for this one. Looks like I will only need around 350 whp to run 11's. I was reading the current Car & Driver with America Supercars like Saleen and the Mosler. The Mosler weighs 2600 lbs. and has no powersteering. Granted it's engine is in the rear but the front/rear ratio is more like a stock Beretta. The journalist only complained about the heavy steering at parking lot speeds with the wide tires up front. Got to be worth about 40-50 lbs. weight loss with with the pump and steel lines. Depending on what gear ratio I end up with, the car might be under 2500 lbs.(stock was 2690) and quite the terror at the strip and roadcourse.

ill have to say it will weigh more if the stock setup is 2690. a ls1 has to weigh a bit more than the stock 3 liter?
