Corvette Conversion - What is needed?
Welcome! Both Scooter70 and 70LS1 can help you out with what you're looking at, but I'd start with reading through the stickies at the top of the forum, both the FAQ's, and my sticky has information that is very similar (any SBC to LS1 is close to the same,) the basics of the swap are similar.. as far as wiring, cooling, gauges, fuel, are concerned. I do not know about the mid 70's vettes, as far as the compatible oil pan, mounts, etc, are concerned. Do a search or two, you're bound to find some valuable info.

Yeah scooter and 70ls1 and budman can help out,i just finished my swap out ,and buttoning up the last few things this week,should taking its maiden voyage today.A few things youll need motor mounts,i got mine from dan at vetteworks,for exhaust i modified my hooker sidepipes and mated them to ls1 flanges,took a bit of work but they sound great.Fuel system i used a 99 vette fuel filter regulator so i only had to run one feed line to the front and the return goes right back to the tank off the fuel filter.You can use an inline fuel pump or modify your existing tank like i did and used a walbro 255 intank pump.One thing for sure dont use the truck oil pan i did,i have ground clearance issues,im gone to have to take the pan back off and cut it this week,but if im careful ill be ok for testing.I believe the fbody pan will work better.Wiring harness i used a 99 harness and modified it myself ,very easy,only uses a few wires to start.Unless you want to spend $500 for an aftermarket harness thats fine.The other guys will chime in im sure for the other odds and ends,they were a big help for me.Also i used jesse from wait4me to tune the pcm for no vats etc... and started first try.Good luck-You on the corvetteforum also?

i took the path least travveled...
LSx w/ carb and TH350
I got the flywheel and spacer from hughes...you need special motor mounts...i used C5 exh manifolds..F-body pulley setup...F-body oil pan... motor and tranny move about 1in to clear...steering stabilizer was moved..oh u will need a larger hood.
I have the MAD dual Exh LT1 dual fans....no a/c yet

You can also get the crank spacer and bolts from gm,alot cheaper i think,i paid $50 for the spacer and bolts.Yes you can bolt the turbo 350 up to it,i matedmy 700r4 to it you just cant put one bolt back in passenger side upper no big deal.I also used a corvette c5 flexplate and removed the torque tube spline from it and put that on first then the spacer which actually is used to align the older convertorss hub up and you can then use either of 2 sets of holes in the flexplate to bolt the convertor too.I like what holley505 did and went carbed,not alot of guys doing it and thats great to see ,not the norm.

What did you do regarding the exhaust? Does the 70' vette have a single exhaust pipe with two mufflers out the rear?

I am in the early stages of putting in an 04 LS1 into my 68 vette and Scooter70 and Budman have been great at helping me. I purchased EFILive from Jesse at wait4me performance so I can tune myself and he has been great to work with. One problem I just dealt with was I purchased S&P adapter plates and they would not work due to 1/2" thickness. I made my own out of 1/4" stainless - just make sure you buy/make 1/4" plates for proper mount alignment.
To cure the trans to engine mating issue you could also do what I did.... I bought a convertor from Yank specifically made to mate my LT1 era 4l60E to my LS1. I'm sure they can do one for a different trans as well!

Yank kicks ***! Well after driving the vette this week the truck pan is definitely toooo low,i bottomed out hard,didnt crack it,so i took it off and its at the welders right now being sectioned and rewelded.But other then that what a blast it was to drive.

Got the pan back a few minutes ago,the guy did an outstanding job on it,i gave him $50 for it,he spent some good time on it too.Ill take some pics tonight before i put it back on.
