It is getting so close to "Fire Time"

It doesn't sound that hard to do, unbolt the old engine and bolt in the new one, but the details to get it finished are the key to a great job and most of the work! Your job looks marvelous!
"...time to light it off and head for the muffler shop." While I think it would sound just great to do that, is there a chance to warp exhaust valves when you turn it off at the shop when the cold air can get back up the headers?
By the way, using "bent-to-shape" coathangers to get radiator hoses is just a brilliant idea! That would be so much easier than using photos and a tape measure.
man, i was so excited when i first started mine.. i had turned the key on and off enough times to prime everything, so when i went to start it... it just SNAPPED to life.. i bearly touched the key.
awsome feeling... enjoy it dude.

Thanks everyone, for the encouraging words, you have all been a huge help. Hopefully sometime next week-end it will come alive. Oscar, the shift linkage is hooked up and it is in Park! mramay, I will probably only drive it up onto a trailer to get to the muffler shop. Your reasons are part of the concern, though I ran open headers on a race car for years. The other is I do not want to run afoul of the local constabulary! And Dude, yes the butterflies are starting!
I will try and take a little video of the big event.

How long have you been working on this car? I can't wait till I see it out in the open, all finished up, it's gonna look so awesome. Dont forget to check all the little things.. oil pressure sender (if it's not there, you'll get a nice fountain) all vacuum lines, steam line, motor mounts tight, trans, all the things oscar mentioned, O2 sensors, etc..
Good luck!

I am pretty good about making check lists and clearng them off. I've got all the things you mentioned addressed. Plus many more like making sure there is power steering fluid in the pump.
