Default It is getting so close to "Fire Time"

Well, I am just waiting for a few little parts, plug wires and air filter, and I will be ready for a test fire. This week-end was very productive and gratifying. I turned power on and made some tests. The fuel pump comes on with the ignition switch, stays on for a couple seconds then shuts off. The ETC throttle works and after playing with it to open and close a few times, the fuel pump comes on again. After filling the motor with oil, I pulled the plugs out and spun it with the starter, everything seems to work right there. Before testing the fuel pump I put 5 gallons of premium in the tank, the pump primed ok. I did discover one fuel leak and believe I have fixed that. The radiator and fan are back in place, I found some radiator hoses that fit and even the hood is back on the car. I also installed the Sanderson headers permanently with the Permatex Ultra black gasket sealer per their instructions. I have a few nitnoy things left to fix. I still have to assemble the air intake, waiting for the air filter to get here so I can get everything cut right. Then it should be time to light it off and head for the muffler shop! You can see a few picture of my latest work at the link in my sig.

Very cool ride! You're finishing yours, I just started mine, the circle continues.

It doesn't sound that hard to do, unbolt the old engine and bolt in the new one, but the details to get it finished are the key to a great job and most of the work! Your job looks marvelous!

"...time to light it off and head for the muffler shop." While I think it would sound just great to do that, is there a chance to warp exhaust valves when you turn it off at the shop when the cold air can get back up the headers?

By the way, using "bent-to-shape" coathangers to get radiator hoses is just a brilliant idea! That would be so much easier than using photos and a tape measure.

When mine originally fired for the first time I made the mistake of not having the shift linkage hooked up and I launched my hard earned project backwards into a block wall. As I said in a post a long, long time ago.....make sure you are in neutral with the tires blocked. I should have known better doing this stuff over 30 years. It took me a month and alot of $$ to fix my screw-up.

Your TB works even when the car isn't running? Weird.... Even when my harness/ecu worked it would just reset to zero.(apparently what it is supposed to do)

You have the vette driveby wire TB right?

Yes mine is a Corvette Drive by wire. With the key on it responds to the pedal. It does reset itself when you turn the ignition on without touching the pedal as well.

Thanks everyone, for the encouraging words, you have all been a huge help. Hopefully sometime next week-end it will come alive. Oscar, the shift linkage is hooked up and it is in Park! mramay, I will probably only drive it up onto a trailer to get to the muffler shop. Your reasons are part of the concern, though I ran open headers on a race car for years. The other is I do not want to run afoul of the local constabulary! And Dude, yes the butterflies are starting!

I will try and take a little video of the big event.

Pat

Good luck, Pat. Hoping to join you in the running project mode in the next couple'a weeks. How long have you been working on this car? I can't wait till I see it out in the open, all finished up, it's gonna look so awesome.
Dont forget to check all the little things.. oil pressure sender (if it's not there, you'll get a nice fountain) all vacuum lines, steam line, motor mounts tight, trans, all the things oscar mentioned, O2 sensors, etc..
Good luck!

Thanks Olly. The hood came off to remove the old 350 on November 13th. I was shooting to be on the road by April and feel like I am pretty much on schedule. The first cruise night of the year at the local IHOP is April 22, I am hoping to make it there.

I am pretty good about making check lists and clearng them off. I've got all the things you mentioned addressed. Plus many more like making sure there is power steering fluid in the pump.
