Default in tank baffles

anybody got photos of the in tank baffles for an in tank pump? dont want to weld a sump on the bottom. cant afford rock valley or ricks. anyone seen inside of one of theirs? someone has to have an idea of how to baffle. i plan on using the tanks inc pump (90%) or a stock ls1 pump (10%) willing to cut the tank in half if need be to mod properly. everyone says you need baffles and i understand why. but no one ever says how. ps i have searched (might have missed something though). is the tanks inc sump big enough? i looks to small or could i just put a bigger sump on it? just looking for a proven setup for my 73 firebird. thanx joel

The Tanks INC comes with a baffle tray on it I should be good as is. No extra baffling is needed.

Many have used it as is without any problem of staving.. if you do have problem of staving the pump.. you either have a big engine requirements and staying on the pedel for a very long time or doing a lot of very hard, High G turns with your tank being very low !

I am about to do baffles in my tank. It will basically be two sheets of metal going on each side of my Tank's Inc unit. I will have 4 holes in the bottom part of the baffle with 1/2" diameter.

I will section the tank because of planned minitubbing.

For what it is worth, I have a Tanks Inc tank and their pump. It has the "bath tub" that the fuel pick up sits in, and a front to back baffle just to the passenger side of the centered fuel pick up. The baffle has some holes in it at the bottom and top to allow fuel to move past it when filling, but will keep it from sloshing from side to side. It does not have any transverse baffles, and I can see my fuel gauge go up and down under acceleration and braking. There was a link to an article on gas tank construction in a post a while back. The guy was building his own stainless steeel tank and installing baffles. You might try a search here and on Google for gas tanks baffle or gas tank construction and see if it comes up.

Jannes, you should also put some holes near the top of your baffles to allow air to move through when you are filling the tank, otherwise it will take a long time for the fuel levels to equalize between the baffled sections of the tank.

Im just going to fab up a bathtub type bucket unit like the stock LS1 tank uses... and use a 3rd gen sending unit. At least thats the plan for now.

The 99+ (not sure about 98) F-Bodies do not use baffels in the tank. If you use the complete sending unit from one you will not need to add any baffels, they have the "bucket" that surounds the pump which keeps the pump submerged, and there is a venturi system that keeps the bucket full of fuel even if there is only a 1/8 tank of gas. That would be my choice for an F-pump setup if I was going to do it again, just cut your lockring off your tank, make sure the top of the tank is flat and then make a plate to hold the sender in. There is a link to a car-domain site somewhere in here that shows how someone did this, I have it bookmarked at home and will post it later..

I don't know how much this link will help you but here it is anyway : http://www.people.virginia.edu/%7Eme...p/firebird.htm

Or you could go the fuel cell route like this one: http://community.webshots.com/album/54560986fUZmcE

Why not use fuel cell foam? Just keep it clear of the fuel level float and you'd be set.

This is the same basic setup as is pictured above except a different tank, but you can never have too many pics. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/716267/3
