Default Drive By Wire Setup ???

Just wondering if the drive by wire pedal and tac module from the vette and trucks are compatible. Can you plug the truck pedal into the vette tac or truck tac into vette pedal?

Anyone using drive by wire please chime in with what you used. I'm about to call a few local yards and just need to know what works.

I saw a post where someone used the truck pedal but had to cut and weld it because of the angle. I figure truck parts should be easier to get, but the vette stuff looks like it will work with no cutting and welding.

Let me know.
Thanks

I used the full Corvette set up. I found mine by patiently watching EBay. The pedal worked without modification. So far it is working great, very responsive. There are some pictures of my mounting brackets in my journal linked in my signature. I think it is on page 7 of the journal.

Thanks for the photo link.
Nice project by the way.
So the harness to connect the pedal and tac, is that part of the engine harness or a seperate piece?

Thanks. The pedal to TAC harness is a seperate piece. Speartech provided it with the custom harness they made for me. Also the extra connector in the harness for the other TAC plug. It added $50 to the cost of the harness, built custom to the length I asked for.

Thanks again for the info.
Just looked at your site and saw the diagram/photo of the speartech harness.
Looks like a nice setup.
I talked to Wait4Me about sending them my harness to rework, but I may have to talk to Speartech first.

I got my Drive by wire setup from SpearTech. As far as I know it was the Corvette setup but I think the truck stuff all works also. The pedal connects to the TAC (Throttle Actuator Control) box and then another connector on the TAC box is hardwired to the PCM. You can also connect your stalk switch 4 wires for cruise On, set, accel, and brake disconnect to automatically get cruise control.

If you look at my thread on my swap in my 1986 El Camino I have pictures of the pedal I had to modify because it was hitting my transmission tunnel. I notched the arm and bent it and rewelded it back. I still had to twist the mount on the firewall slightly to mount it clear my column. My pedal pad is slightly angled toward the brake pedal so that I can acidently press both at the same time for an exciting supprise. So for now I have just removed the pad to drive it safely and I will have to bend the pedal arm back slightly towards the transmission tunnel to get the pedal pad to align better and give me back clearance from the brake pedal. I was in a hurry to get it to work and just eye balled it without mounting it first to double check the alignment. I should have been more patient and made more measurements, live and learn.

Great setup, I would recommend drive by wire over the cable however mechanical is simple and reliable. I think to automatically get cruise sold me on the setup which allowed me to elliminate my stock vacuum cruise setup, which was working before my swap by the way.

John at SpearTech could tell you if the truck setup is the same also his prices just for the drive by wire setup isn't that expensive and he has it in stock to save you the hunting.

I am also curious about the compatibility of a vette pedal with a truck TAC. I picked up a pedal and unknowlingly bought a truck TAC. I didn't konw there was a difference at the time.
