The exhaust spacing on Ford's Windsor (302, 351) motors is identical to the LSx, although the bolt pattern is different. So, you might be able to do something with a set of flipped 5.0 shorty headers if you cut off the Windsor flanges and weld on LSx flanges. Even if you've got to tweak a few tubes, it might be easier than starting from scratch. I haven't gotten that far yet, so if you figure out an easy exhaust solution, please let me know!

Thats good info! I might have to look closer into that. i was thinking about flipping a set of truck manifolds (think ive seen pics of them bolted on backwards) or just building my own set...

How far along are you? I havent started on mine, just been doing research on which engine to choose and costs at this point. it will be cheaper than finishing my stroker 4.3 though im sure...

I've gotten as far as completely butchering a pristine, 15k mile, original owner truck The whole driveline is out. Working on the suspension, brakes and fuel system right now. The truck already had a Weldon fuel system in it from the old set-up...I figured out things were getting serious when I realized the Weldon needed upgrading Still keeping AWD with a Powerglide. Leaning toward an 8.8 Ford rear with 3.08 lockers front & rear. Kind of putting off the motor 'til last...so many new LSx options are on the horizon. (Warhawk blocks, ET heads, L92 & LS7 parts from Chevy, etc.)

Nice. when are the l92 engines coming out? I know the ls7 is almost impossible to get and they cost more than a whole stock truck, so im not going there. is the l92 going to be an iron block/aluminum head setup like the lq9 lq4?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...8&page=3&pp=20

has some motor info you maybe looking for.

Early 6.0s used a different flexplate from later Gen3 motors which maybe easier to use if your 4L80E was from a traditional SBC. You may want to look at the TH400 swap topics in the auto trans. section for more info.

L92 stuff is starting to come out now...there are a few threads in the LS2-LS7 section about it. Prices are looking very reasonable. 4.06" bore aluminum block. Heads are similar to LS7, but smaller ports & valves, and different intake bolt pattern. Aftermarket intakes are already in the works, and an Aussie car intake is supposedly available too. Looks like its going to be a good option for the money.

What about it?

Personally I don't think its worth thinking about. The heads don't flow as well, it has less displacement, and about the same cost as a 6.0L.....Why bother with it?

Physical dimensions are the same for all LSx engines, so a 4.8 or 5.3 would bolt right in using the same mounts, oil pans, etc. as any other LSx engine. I know of only one other 5.3 S-series swap in progress, and that person is only using the 5.3 to mock-up and get the truck running...he plans on switching to a larger displacement motor in the near future. The smaller bore motors are limited by cylinder head flow as well...that doesn't sit too well with SyTy swaps...we tend to be a bunch of sick individuals who are looking for big flow & big inches to go along with our big boost.

Thumbs up

Ive always loved those trucks a built turbo V8 would be awesome! If you are not going to build the V8 Id stay with the stroker V6 and go with a nice large turbo.

Well the v6 thats in there now is built with a ball bearing T76 hanging on the side. Truck has already been way way faster than im allowed without a cage. Im just looking at dollar per horsepower and the v8 wins hands down. I can build this new motor for a fraction of the cost to build the v6. I get the same power levels but without having to push it as hard.

Oh yes i will be taking a lot of pics too!

Coming from a former typhoon owner i can undoubtably say that whether it's still a syclone or not, it sure will see the pavement alot more often!

It's almost worth the trouble/money of the swap just to never have to mess around with those damn vaccum lines ever again.

Um, he did.....

A Sy is a GMC Syclone. A Ty is a GMC Typhoon. Built in 1992/93. All came with a 4.3L turbocharged V6, 700R4, and AWD. Fastest production trucks & SUVs at the time they were built.

So, consider yourself a bit more edumacated now.....

It's offtopic, but seeing this thread makes me remember the time I was at the track and the bracket that held my radio in the dash gave on the launch. I still have a small scar on my knuckles from where the radio chassis slid across the top of my hand on the way to the back seat!
