Default c-10 motor alignment help

i'm having truble lining up my motor/trans(98ls1/4l60e)
i got some of them adapter plates and there a joke
i perrty mutch decided to make my own mounts. so i got the motor
hung in there the way i want it and the only way it'll fit(with the a/c
compressor on) is if i mount it in there side ways. the crank would be
1/2 in to far to the right(looking from the front). is there a problem
of mounting it in slightly sideways or not. i don't have a/c but i might
consider it in the future. or will i need a deferent compressor any way
also the the motor looks like it's sit'n to far down in the back i'm using
the stock oil pan if that makes a diference. i would consider notching
the frame rite there to get the compressor to fit if i need to.

any help would shure help

Would not mount it moved to the right because that might interfere with the rive line angles....cold air is not worth the trouble. alot of people have had the compressor interferance problem. Your options are, notch the crossmember, relocate the compressor up top or ditch it. My car does not have a/c so i ditched the compressor

Slightly off is not really a problem, but when I say slightly off I mean a couple degrees. As far as being mounted sideways, any misalignment may result in driveline vibrations, U joints need to run at equal and opposite angles, IE: if your motor is pointed 3 degrees to the right ideally your rear end pinoin needs to point 3 degrees to the left. I would notch the frame if you want to make the A/C fit. As far as the rear end being down ideally you want to aim for 2-3 degrees down on the back of the motor. You can check this relatively easily by leveling the truck to ride height the best you can and then using an angle finder. Heres a link to what an angle finder looks like, just in case you have never heard of it http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=34214

You can mount your engine off to one side or the other only if you keep the center of the engine and transmission parallel with the center of the chassis. If you have to move the front of the engine 1 1/2 inches to the left, then the tail end of the transmission has to be moved 1 1/2 inces to the left.
The OEMs have done this on many cars.

My camaro is not a DD but last summer was a biatch......factory insulation (or lack there of), headers right next to the floor, the heat factory 350 right next to the firewall, the black interior and the summer sun..........makes for a pretty good mobile tanning booth

Yee ho I pulled the compressor off. Then remembered that the reson I didn't like the motor mount adapter plates was because the compressor kept me from put'n them on backward. The sales/tech guy that sold me the plates told me that they move the motor forward. So I asked him if I could just swap sides and move the motor back rather that forward. He sayed that the plates are machined such and such a way that I couldn't put them on backward............well he was wrong.........After I had the compressor off I swithed the mounts around like he sayed not to do and It looks like the motor and trans lines right up on the money.(grin) I would put some pictures on but I cant figure out how to up load them......
I also need to put my wheels on to figure in that 0-3 degrees of angle that G-body was talk'n about.......

thanks for all of yer help

Oh I forgot to mench'n the passenger exaust manifold will not work if I decide to use the adapter plates. I'll look at some truck manifolds and take some mesurments.

If you need some measurements I can measure the spare set of 5.3L tahoe manifolds that I have.
