Default V8 in yota pickup

I'm new the the V8 world and was looking to shove a carbed v8 into my yota pickup. Anyone have any suggestions to what would be the better motor for the swap? I'm not looking to run 7 seconds or anything like that, just something that will prove its worth on the street and be good for some nice burnouts now and then

how about a boosted truck motor....I have read that alot of power can be squeezed out of them and they are cheap and easy to acquire.

If your just looking for a good daily driver engine with enough power for a few burnouts, then I would find a 5.3 truck engine. They can be had for $400-$800 sometimes complete with wiring, etc.

can much be done with the 5.3 performance wise? i mean its a pretty light weight truck so it wouldn't take a whole lot, thats not a bad price either, i don't want to boost my motor now, its got 209,000 on it and don't want to have to rebuild it

4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 5.7/LS1, parts are all interchangeable
cam, heads, intake
so yes, do a search for 5.3 for some examples

Default V-8 Toyota

Hey Yotascaper,

I am also doing a swap in my very cheap thrills Toyota 2wd. I was lucky enough to find a LS6 long block with a Victor Jr. intake and a Holley 750 carb. I am running a 200R with a 3000 stall lockup. Lots of parts available out there. The 8.8 rear end out of an Explorer is almost a direct bolt in for the rear. These little trucks are only about 2400# so they can really fly with a basically stock motor. Good luck with your project. Mac

people have been known to swap the 5/6/7M supra motors into early toyota trucks. there is also the factory turbo motor, the 22rte.

carbed v8's have been done many times, i'm sure if you looked on a 4x4 toyota site you could find all the required info on what is required for many different setups.

my dad has a 400 sbc in his 1984 toyota. he uses to stock toyota rears and they both hold up well. he had to use a 700r4 tranny and chevy transfer case. wanted to keep it a manual but the front driveshaft would be on the wrong side. theres alot of room in there. he could seriously fit roots blower under the hood. he custom made his engine mounts though. it sits really low but its still well above the ground and protected due to the 7" of lift.

with the all iron 400, 700r4, transfer case, 4WD 15x10 wheels, 35x12.5 tires, his truck weighs in at 3600 lbs. that was on two scales. I don't see how you could get them down to 2400 lbs. maybe the all iron engine, 4wd, and big wheels/tires add that much weight?

yeah, the yotas are light, i know compared to an s10, there is a world of difference, with my little 22r and a 4 speed, it suprises me for a 4 banger at times, i think though the way my gas mileage is going that if i swapped in a v8 right now the mileage would be better, don't know yet, gotta see how finances work out

i think i would be getting far away from the 4 speed, thats what kills my mileage, i can't stay off the gas, and running 70 on the 4 lane compared to 55-60 oh lord i can tell a difference

my dad runs good rpms on the highway. the 4.10s in his truck act like 3.23-3.42s in an f-body. the reason he gets terrible mileage is its a large carburated engine.

If you come in at your 2400 lb weight goal you SHOULD get better gas mileage than a automatic F-body. probably well over 20mpg on the highway.

however a t56 would be cool to see!
