just do a search for second generation camaros and firebirds. you will find all the info you need. yes it will fit you just have to know what parts to buy and how to modify a few things.

ill be doing a single turbo forged stroked 383 LS6 in a '79 camaro later this year. buying the complete car no motor w/th350, 10 bolt rear end $1500!!! super clean straight body no rust, excellent interior too. needs to be stripped and painted. a friend of mine hasnt done anything with the car since 2001 and wants it gone this year. the LS6 is coming out of my '04 Z06. im currently finishing the build of a LS2 403 that will be dropped in next month.

LOL, the 2nd gen F-bodies had V8's in them from the factory so why would it need any work to make a smaller LS1 fit? The only thing you will need to bolt it up is a set of mounting plate adapters to adapt old style mounts to a LSX motor and then fab up a tranny mount unless you plan on using a th-350/400 then the stock crossmember will work. Only other thing is wiring and headers.

I've got an LQ4 6.0 in my 81Z. Right now it used to be carbed but I'm just finishing up the EFI swap right now.

I am doing a 78 trans am with a 4l60e and I would stay away from the Brp
2nd generation swap out kit. With this kit you have to use the LH 8 oil pan and it still hangs below the crossmember. The motor sets high and foward, the reason for this is so you can use the stock ls1 camaro/firebird a/c compressor.Problem is this compressor will not work properly with your 2nd generation system,so you might as well remount it high on the passingerside with a kwik performance a/c relocation braket and a sanden compressor.
I would use trans dapt motor mount plates and bolt your original clam shell mounts to them.I would use your orginal frame pads but not in the original locations. You can use the ls1 f body pan by slidding the motor back till it clears the crossmember. The a body ls1 edelbrock headers work great with this setup and the pan will not hang below the crossmember.Sure you will have to center the motor and drill new motor pad holes.Yes you will have to rework your transmission crossmember and shorten the driveshaft. You would have to shorten the driveshaft with the Brp kit and also drill new holes for there mounts. This setup is less expense, yet looks and works better.I don,t know how this would work on a t56 swapout because of the shifter hole location, but I bet it may work out just fine.Good luck

I have the brp mount kit and love it i used the stock f-pan and placed the engine as far back as i could until the alt hit the frame. as for thet tran x-member was not a big deal i think that its a very nice fit. they only thing that i had to do was cut the hole for the t56 shifter and that was it, besides the holes being drilled for the kit. the only probelm that iam having is headers but the pacesetter 4th gen headers are close they just need some work this is the onlt pic that i have of were it sits. but note that i will not be using the stock a/c compressor i will get the vintage setup

Your kit looks nothing like the Brp kit I purchased just 3 months ago. The kit I purchased included the h3 pan and was over 700.00. I sold the stuff on e bay at a great loss.I,am much happier with the setup I now have. With the 4l60e transmission Brp never mentions the fact unless you ask them that if you want your cable driven speedo to work you will have to buy an apaptor and use a different tail housing.Brp has a vender for this 450.00 kit but the problem is the kit relocate the transmission mount position and height. Not to bad of a problem except now the brp crossmember will not work. Would have liked to have know this before I shelled out my hard earned cash on the Brp kit.I guess I should have done my research first instead of counting on there so called engineers. My loss is there gain.P,S. I purchased the transmission tail housing apaptor kit from a different vendor, Jagsthatrun that was much better and less money.Good Luck

My kit was 495.00 also ,but it would only work with the lh8/h3 oil pan which was another 250.00 to Brp.So really I had 750.00 plus shipping in this setup that didnt work out.I am all for ls1 conversions in second gereration f bodies or anything else.I,am just saying before you start buying parts do your research and check out what other people have done.Sometimes expense and shiney is not the way to go.When your all done with the car, I bet the reward will be well worth the effort. Good Luck
