I don't know if it is required, but without it you will set some "loss of communication" codes. My guess is you don't need it. I couldn't find anything in the description of operation of the IPC that would indicate it needs a signal from anywhere to wake up. I think it is tied to the BCM more for displaying information on the text display than anything else.

I am still toying with the idea and as soon as someone actually gets one up and running, I'll probably try again.

I got the IPC with the motor and everything in a package including all the wirings.

The IPC passed the display test as Oscar mentioned above. At this point I don't have the BCM hooked up and everything seems to work fine except for low fuel and low coolant messages I got from the IPC. I will send out my PCM to disable the VATs and other unused functions. After that I will attempt to start the car up and learn more about the IPC and other sensors info. Thanks for the responses. I will keep you guys posted on this.

One more thing I looked at. The testing procedure in the manual has you tie the two signals together for level. You might try tying the two references together and the two signal lines together then using different resistors between them to get a level reading. I would try 250 then 125 ohms. One of those should give you a full reading. Then try 40 then 25. One of those should give you empty. Once you figure out empty and full you can adjust your stock sender to work.

When you powered it up did you get a lot of error codes on the text display?

Jeff,
I am sure there are a bunch of DTCs stored already because the BCM, RTD, Stereo, AC .. etc are missing. Every time the system power up all the components suppose to send SOH message to the IPC. If not the IPC will store the DTC codes. However the IPC only displays all the important info on the display. So far I got 3 messages I think and they are: Low coolant, Low fuel and check tires pressure system.

Thanks for the tips on tying the 2 inputs. I will try it later on today.

Any updates? I'm running into the same problem with a LSx swap into a '98 1500 truck and I'm trying to avoid adding an aftermarket gauge if possible.

Sorry guys. I am having problem with the 98 C5 PCM which prevents my car from running from missing all the other modules. I've been talking to quite a few people and it doesn't sound good. I have to get the 99 and up C5 PCM in order for it to work with my setup ( C5 IPC and drive by wire function). I can use the Fbody PCM but I have to use a cable to the TB. Right now I just tie a resistor accross the left tank input and I got 1/2 tank all the time. I remember reading the some where that you can program the PCM to receive input from just 1 sensor or the average of both. I will get to the fuel gauge as soon as I get the car stay running. Hopefully soon.
