Default Ideas? What Color for my Fuel Rail Covers?

I am getting ready to customize my fuel rail covers. I plan to fill in the Corvette lettering, finish them smooth, paint them and then apply Studebaker lettering. I'm looking for suggestions on the color for the covers. My initial thought was to do them in a silver similar to the aluminum color of the motor, but after having them on their in black, that has grown on me. If I do them in black I will do the Studebaker lettering in red, very close to the color of the Corvette lettering. I am also planning to redo my intake with seamless metal tubing that will be finished and powder coated. I may do the tubing and the rail covers the same color. Any talented photoshop folks out there that could change the colors in my picture for me?

One thing I have found is the general public is very impressed that the motor says Corvette on it. I know I will lose that impact when I change it to Studebaker, but the car guys will know what it is.

thanks for your help.

anything but red (or the color of the body)....a low gloss black with red lettering.....the red would complement the engine bay color or vice versa

Help me pull my motor in two weeks up here in Corning and I'll let you know!

What is on a stock Study valve cover? Something old school would look great imo.

Can't do it the 24th, but might be able to the week after. Let me know.

The stock Studebaker Valve Covers don't say anything, though there are some aftermarket aluminum ones. FOr a while they were painting their valve covers yellow. Here is a picture of the SBC valve covers I created for the 350 I had in there before the LS1. The lettering is a vinyl script and I can have it printed again in many colors and any size. That is what I am planning to use on the fuel rail covers once I pick a color for them. I don't think the yellow would work though

would be nice if you could get lettering with that old school font to put on your covers. I am sure some print shop should be able to do it

Oh, I already have it. I worked with a local sign shop to create it originally. We traced the script on my grill, then they scanned and digitized it. Then I had them change the S to Studebaker's lazy S to give it a little more character. They can make the lettering in vinyl, that I will apply to the covers, then shoot clear coat over them. That's what we did with the valve covers, except with powder coat, unfortuantely that won't work with the plastic covers.

I think that script looks great! Maybe black with same color script as the engine bay. Just kidding about the help with the motor. Maybe when I get the new one installed and need an expert to help me catch all the little things I missed, you could help. Thanks for the offer!

Mike,

Thanks for the ideas. The filter is a K&N. P/N is KNF RF-1039 at this site:

They got a ton of them to chose from. Prices were good too.

Black with the same red as the body for lettering it would be cool if you did it in low gloss too you might wanna make the letters thicker than what was on the old valve covers though but wuth vinyl it's easy to experiment an see what works best.

that was one hell of a run on sentence.

I like the low gloss idea as well, but am wondering if low gloss clear coat is possible. I feel like I need the clear coat to seal the vinyl lettering to the covers.

before i even read your text, i looked at the pic...

first thought was, silver like the motor... then i realized, it needed to be darker.. but not black..

normally, im not a fan of gunmetal, but if you painted it a gunmetal metallic color, it would fit in there nice.... i have the perfect example of the color im thinking of sitting next to me.. my Razr cellphone is gunmetal color.

Fuel Rail Covers in gunmetal with script in silver, intake in a silver metallic, and intake piping in a matching silver color.

I'm pretty sure you can get a low gloss or semi gloss clear from a decent body shop supply house. You might have to order it and some times they have an additive that will degloss a finish.
